    Storing unopened cans...

Hi everybody. Now I know from reading other posts that you should store opened cans in the fridge, and that unopened cans you intend to keep beyond their use by date in the freezer... but what about regular cans you know you'll use before the stamped use before date...? Can these just be stored in the usual 'cool dark place'? Or should they be stuck in the freezer too? At present I'm just storing them in the fridge.

    Advice greatfully received!

I would put them all in the freezer except ones you are using this week

for long-term storage in the freezer i would vacuum seal them with a vacuum sealer that sucks all the air out.

Yup, snus keeps longer in the freezer in my experience.

I know the received wisdom says to keep everything cool - and frozen if keeping for a long time. If you're going to do the freezing thing then I'd definitely second Ansel's advice about vacuum sealing - just freezing cans for me really affects the taste and increases the drip of portions. For more short term solutions - I never even refrigerate the stuff unless it's going to be over a month before I use it - maybe in a heatwave that would be a problem - but not under normal conditions.

Of course that's just my opinion - most snus manufacturers recommend that you refrigerate snus to keep the TSNA's down.

          Cheers

Regardless of anything else, I like cold snus. I prefer a cold nugget when I first put a pris in. That being the case, my in-use snus gets kept in the fridge. My stored snus goes in the freezer. I have a lot of snus, so freezing is a necessity. If I only had a roll or two at at a time, I'd probably just keep it in the fridge.

Since your question is specific in regards to unopened cans that you know you'll use before the date, I always put them in the fridge. Freezing should only be used for long term storage IMO.

It just depends on how quick you use it. I had a bunch of Jakobsson's strong portions that I used about 3 months after their exp date in the fridge and they tasted just fine.

I assume refrigerating or freezing isn't as important when storing white portions?

Probably not, but it's a fine point. There's still flavor that can degrade, and it'll degrade the same as a regular portion.
