Any problems flying with snus?

I'm in Canada at the moment as our band's on tour here. I haven't had any problems between EU countries before - but when we arrived in Edmonton - some but not all of my snus had been taken out of the case pocket along with my 3mm steel ice-tool . Also - inside the case was an unopened can of skruf stark los which had come open in the journey (not sure if it was security people or cabin pressure.

Luckily I am left with just about enough for the 6 days here - but it's all los or N&J (which for some reason wasn't taken)

Has anyone else had problems like this?

I have traveled with snus a bit, never any issues but just within the US. But I always have it with my carry on, I have never checked it And security has never batted an eye at it.

Just got back from Mexico brought 4 cans with me. No problems going through customs to and from Mexico.

Did they keep your icetool too?

That's the annoying thing - yes the 3mm icetool went with the snus.

I'm starting to think that it just must have fallen out somehow - because the compartment of my suitcase where the things went missing still had the nick & johnnys there. But losing the icetool is a complete bummer - the 5mm one I bought ages ago is way too big.

Anyway - I'll know for next time - I will always travel with it as hand luggage from now on unless I'm going for weeks and then I'll put a small order in to arrive at an address overseas.

If you were in a European country that has banned snus, that would explain why it was confiscated. To be on the safe side, always keep it in your pocket so the x-rays won't pick it up.

Maybe I'm slightly dyslexic, but whenever I see this topic I see "Any problems with flying snus?" It brings up the image of having a sneezing fit with a used portion splatting onto your mates forehead... :wink:

Yes - that's what I thought. However - I've always put the snus in the little trays of pocket contents before and never had a problem flying in the EU. Also - that doesn't explain why Nick & Johnny, Skruf Stark and Landstroms weren't confiscated but Gotlands, Jakobssons and Wise were along with the ice tool. Maybe the customs men only liked less strong snus!

No - I'm pretty sure it must have come open during the baggage handling and fallen out. I must remember to be more careful next time.

Snus is NOT banned for personal use in any European country. Only the sale is banned. so if you were bringing in so much that they thought you were trying to sell it, then maybe. But snus for personal use is completely legal. Northerner and Buysnus ships to every single country in the EU. Why? Because importing it for personal use is completely legal

my icetool got caught in the carry through. They checked it because they thought it was a weapon. But I showed them how it was for snus and they let it through. I think this happened in Tampa or ... oh yeah, it was Atlanta I believe.
