Just out of curiosity... whats the difference? Does the Freshsaver have a motorized pump or something vs the Ziploc manual?
Messin' is good and sometimes even gooder!
    I tend to think likewise.

FreshSaver is cordless with a charging base always at hand.
Its sucking power blows the ZipLoc Pump outta dis world!
(something I shoulda mentioned in my plug -- minus 2 points on the adometer!)

    Edit:
    I forgot to mention that
, as a bonus, the FreshSaver comes with
a simple attachment to seal FoodSaver canisters.

    OR
if you have one of the full-blown FoodSavers the hose
attachment dingy also works with the ZipLoc bags.

(dang, this sure is getting confusin' .. but once you check it out it will all come together like your favorite puzzle)

It's not an "expiration" date, it's a "best before" date.

          Another suggestion..

I also use Freshvac Vacuum Containers for storing my opened snus in the fridge...
I've not had any dry out on me so far in 3 months time.

(Snus is classified as produce, right?)

All you do is press down on the closed cover and, voila -- vacuum sealed!!
They're available in sets or as individual containers.

              Mine were given to me as a gift more than a year ago (BJs had them);
wish they still had 'em!! I'd even settle for a large FoodSaver Container.

Walmart has 2 sets listed but no single containers:
Freshvac Pro Large Square Container Set, 6-Piece
              http://www.walmart.com/ip/Freshvac-P...-Piece/8056616

Freshvac Pro Deep Rectangle Container Set, 6-Piece

Looks like Site-to-Store is the best option (no shipping charges) --
That may be the only option since I haven't been able to find any locally.

Target has a single container (but not in-store):

              13.52 cup vacuum sealing container

Thanks for the leg work snusgetter. I have to stop in at the Walmart after work today and I'll see if they have any in stock. I could use some moAr tupperware type containers anyhoo as many of mine seemed to have found 'legs' in the past two years thanks to my Ex.

Any thoughts on whether it's better to (a) put a can of loose that you are carrying with you during the day back in the fridge at night or (b) once you have taken the can out of the fridge for daily use, just leave it out until it's gone rather than back and forth to the fridge?

With portions, I don't re-refrigerate the can I carry daily. And the portions I carry around will normally be used within 2-3 days after coming out of the fridge. I use a lot less loose--only started using loose at all last month, and so far it's seeming like a can will probably last me 1-2 weeks.

Crap. I went to the Walmart and of course none of the FreshVac's to be found in store.

Totally unrelated as I probably won't use these for snus but rather food stuffs, ended up buying these for a 10 dollar bill:

                    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rubbermaid...-Lids/10902717

Ladies were practically trying to go down on me as I wheeled my cart up front to pay for these, especially when they asked how much and I said only $10.

After some thought, I'm not gonna bother with Walmart's online doodoos -- too much bother for me. I may just look into the single container from Target -- or maybe just wait.

How does it suck out the air?

                          Seems interesting.

                            Satisfied freshvac user..

                            ~
After the discussion in a different thread, I decided to get more freshvacs online.

                            After a little research, I decided to get a couple sets from freshvac.com;
I actually use these also for food storage.

I ordered a double set of rectangle and a double set of square (similar to the container you got):

freshvac PRE 12-piece square kit from Freshvac

This 12-piece square container kit features the PRE line from Freshvac.

This kit comes with 6 containers in 3 great sizes—convenient for storing everything from herbs to large fresh produce.

Freshvac PRE is made of BPA-free, #5 plastic, and features Freshvac's vacuum sealing valve that preserves freshness up to 4 times longer than regular airtight only containers.

These durable containers are tools for cutting back on waste--wasteful food spoilage and wasteful disposable containers and plastic wrap--saving you money in the long-run!

Single Set of 3 containers (1 each of 3)

Double Set of 6 containers (2 each of 3)

NOTE: Bottoms are dishwasher safe but I won't chance the tops
'cause of the gasket and the vacuum doohickey.

[The set I received almost 2 years ago as a gift does have one
container that refuses to seal so I just use it as I would a Tupperware]

How do I create a vacuum seal?
                              • Be sure the edges of the lid and container are clean and dry.
                              • For PROFESSIONAL & PLUS lines: Place the lid on top of the container, matching handles over tabs.
                              • For the PRE line: Snap the locking handles into place.
                              • Press lever down into closed position.
                              • Push firmly on the center of the lid several times to remove the air from inside the container.
                              • Each successive time you press, more air is forced out of the container, causing the vacuum indicator button to become inverted.

How do I release a vacuum seal?

To release a vacuum seal, lift the green lever. It's that simple.

                                Hm.. Interesting..

Going to see if I can find them locally.

Do the seals last a long time?
