I've had stuff in the freezer that has been a year out of date, it's fine. I take the next two on the hit list and pop them in the fridge. when the stuff in the fridge is on my desk, the next two (or one) move into the fridge

My freezer stash has always been good but once a can sits out at room temperature I have noticed that it does start to change color to a lighter brown with los and portions turn into dry bricks.

I don't put my freezer cans in bags. I don't feel it makes a difference on a sealed tin. A scientist might tell you it does, but I am not convinced it matters one way or another.

I hate to bring this up again, but.... Fridge or Freezer?

Ok here is the deal. I ordered some more snus. 14 cans. Put them in ziplock bags in the high humidity crisper thing in the fridge.

But I wasn't out of snus from my LAST order on March 31st. There are still some left that were in there. I put them all in ziplock bags and in the humid crisper drawer, but I counted 28 cans total.

Is this too much? Do I NEED to put some of this in the freezer? I hear the freezer takes away from taste and nicotine.. I don't want that. But I also don't want bad snus.

So.. Am I worrying too much, or is the freezer the way to go? I feel "overstocked" I guess and who knows when I will get to any of the leftover cans from my March order. A couple of them I even opened in the weeks prior to try them. But most are still unopened.

          Help me out guys!

I keep all my snus in the freezer until I need to open a new can. I, and many others here, have used cans that have been frozen for well over a year with no taste or nicotine problems. I would just keep the cans in a good ziploc freezer bag, or better yet a vacuum sealed bag to keep the frost away.

              jm,

as a general rule...............anything that I have open is in the fridge..................anything that is not open is in the freezer...............before opening a new tin I put it in the fridge to let it thaw.

That said I primarily use los...............I usually only have one or two cans open at a time................but I would probably do the same for portions (unless I was one of those folks with 12 different kinds opened at a time)

As it stands now...............I will use portions on occasion when discretion is in order.....................but I keep those in the freezer and just use them straight from the freezer (I might do it differently if I was using portions all the time)

If your snus is portions............... you might want to use the search bar at the top right of the menu to see how the portion folks store theirs. I know it has been discussed quite a bit so it should not be hard to find threads dedicated to the subject

              hope this helps
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I don't have a vacuum sealer. Would, in that case, it still be better to use the freezer instead? Can I even take my older cans from March that have been in the fridge and go ahead and freeze them too?

                loose and portions?

Yes, just get as much air as you can out of the bag. Again mostly a Los user here but that is what I do. In the freezer until I open it. Then in the fridge unless I am carrying it around during the day.

This, and I wouldn't even stress getting the air out. I seal the bag most of the way, then suck the air out, and fully seal the bag. I think that's overkill, but it takes a second, so why not? I'm currently using a tin of Gotland Gra los that "expired" in June 2008. It may have had minor moisture loss, but it still tastes great. SM paperboard tin snus will dry out a bit more, but if you find it disagreeable, add a bit of water, and let it rest in the fridge over night; good as new.

Hmm.. ok. I don't know why I am so afraid of freezing it all. I guess because I've read a lot about loss of nicotine potency after freezing. I'll give it a shot. Maybe just freeze SOME of it for now. Keep about 10 cans in the fridge.

What happens to meet when you freeze it? It become not so good in taste as fresh meet what happens to sausage when you freez it? It changed the texture and taste so snus is the same refregirator not freez it is My sugestion

This was my thought pattern and analogy to not wanting to freeze it. The freezer makes everything taste bad. Granted it has a lot to do with air in contact with the product, but if I go through a can in lets say, even 4 days, then my 28 cans will last a little less than four months. Which I would think should be sufficient for a fridge in ziplock bags if trusting the bast fore dates. At least somewhat. (I hope)

                          hmm..

Depends on how often you order. I've always taken the order early, order a ton approach to snus. I haven't made an order since before PACT was passed. I've had a 2 year+ supply of snus since I started snusing. I hit up deals when they presented themselves, and I think that strategy has paid off, especially considering MD's recent unconstitutional infringement on my pursuit of happiness.

True. But is there really no difference in taste/nicotine after that amount of time? Even disregarding bast fore dates, it seems that within four months in a ziplock in the fridge's high humidity drawer it would be as good or better than freezing in those time limits. Maybe not though.. *shrug*

I notice no reduction in nicotine. Some snus doesn't age as well as others, but it's all still pretty good. The pay off for having /slightly/ degraded snus, is I paid MUCH less for it, and I still have some snus that isn't available at any price :^)
