    The pinch method

    I've been trying this and much prefer the nicotine delivery this way, only I keep having bits come off in my mouth which I then swallow and get hiccups...

    What are some good instructions to follow?

    Talk to Zero and Xobeloot, they're like the los pros I've noticed. But learning how to hand bake a pris so it's the right shape for you definately helps. I find that the edges of my pris usually dissolve, and I just sip some water or whatever I'm drinking and swallow it. Remember, snus is produced to comply with swedish food sanitation standards, so it's not like it's going to hurt you. I like to start with a pris about the size of a pencil eraser, or maybe a bit larger, and stick it up as high as I can get it, then I hold it in place with my fingertip and pull my lip all the way down, so the tension between my lip and gum hold it in place. Also, I've found that if you wipe the inside of your lip off with the back of your hand before you insert the pris, it stays put better. Hope that helps.

    PS. Zero has a video stickied at the top of this page that shows him hand baking a pris that will help you work on your technique. Watch it like a thousand times, then you should know what you're doing.

      Thanks for the help, I can bake a pris fine, I'm more interested in the traditional Swedish method of taking a pinch from the can and placing it straight under the lip.

        it's called the hillbilly, and it's AWESOME

        just don't give people a big grin while you're doing it, because all they'll see is a black-toothed mouth and think you're disgusting.

        one of my big things is that I explain to people how snus ISN'T disgusting, so I have to watch it :P

            that was insanely slick. I tried my first "hillbilly" last night on my way home from the bar...didn't work out too badly, I guess, but I had to abort after about 30 minutes. I can't get a pinch as high up in my gum as a properly baked pris. I will say though, you get the flavor much faster and much more clearly this way. Didn't notice any difference in the nicotine delivery. I don't know, I'll try this some more at home...don't want to be out in public with los all in my teeth.

              I use the "hillbilly" 9 times out of ten, and I usually have a "spitter" near by just in case. Don't know why, but I don't get as much nicotine with the traditional baking method.

                It makes since it works.

                I actually used it with Gotlands Gul and it held up for about an hour.

                It just feels weird after using an icetool and handbaking for awhile.

                But i use it just like i would when i dipped american snuff. Just get you a modest pinch and compact it a little in the can and upper lip it.

                  I've tried the 'hilbilly' a few times today, and it's hit or miss with me...I can get it to stick for up to an hour about half the time, but other times, I stick it up there and like 10 minutes later I'm rinsing it out of my entire mouth. I guess I'll just keep practicing and get my technique down, but part of me likes the handbaking 'ritual' and the fact that I get that slow ramp up in flavor. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for in that pris, a quick hit, or a long, mellow session. Just my .02 I guess.

                      Basically, the main difference is in the looseness of a pinch vs a baked pris. A loose pinch is going to dump lots of flavor and juice on you almost immediately. With the huge flow of juice comes a sledgehammer of nicotine. A baked pris is tighter, thus harder for saliva to filter through creating a slow juice flow. Slow juice flow = slower nicotine release.

                      As far as managing a bonde pinch, it takes a little getting used to, but once you do, it can be done with minimal crap on your teeth.

                      In that video, you'll notice that he takes a pinch and presses it inside the can and then gives it a real quick bake before tucking it in his lip.

                      When I go redneck style, all I do is take my can and thump it on the desk a couple times to pack it good and tight, break off a chunk, pinch it a bit in the can so that I can move it without it all falling apart and slap it in.

                      Give it a push with your tongue/lower lip, lick lips clean and voila. just like a hand-baked with huge flavor, hard nic hit, and clean lips/teeth!

                        Now, once it is in, you can either leave it alone and allow the juice jackhammer to keep on doin it's thing...

                        OR

                        You can bake it with your tongue against the inside of your lip:



                        And once it is tongue-baked, feel free to give it a tongue flip to the other side, or just lick it for some flavor then slap it back up with your tongue





                        Keep on practicing and you will find that there is no need for portions to be neat or discreet

                          Thanks for the advice, and for the pictorial! I'm slowly getting there I think, but sometime it falls apart when I'm putting it in my mouth and goes all over my tongue, but I guess I need to keep practising.

                            xob - you're my f-ing hero, man...you're like the los commando. lol, I wish I had your mad los-packing skills. Although, my handbaking technique is pretty good, but I noticed that after about an hour, I get a little bit running into my teeth, and when I jam it back up there with my tongue, a bit will pop out on the other side into my teeth. Advice?

                              Close your mouth and puff out your lips a bit, use your tongue to roll the pris 180 upwards. The runny side will then firm up on the top and the bottom will be nice and round again from where it used to be against your gums.
