A newbie snus user needs help!!

    Hello everybody!

I´m a heavy smoker. I smoke at least a pack a day and I really want to quit smoking. I used be good at sports and stuff but nowadays when I run or ride my bike i get so exhausted and its hard to breathe and i have to cough for like an half an hour before i can breathe easily again. Plus smoking makes your clothes and breth smell really bad so i really want to quit. but i cant do it cold turkey. I was thinking about an option for smoking and i found snus.

Recently i bought my first tins of snus: lucky strike original white portion and catch licorice. i really like them both but i have some questions that need to be answered. so please help me!

1: under my left upper lip (where i keep the snus) it gets really sore and i get a little "wound" there everytime a keep a snus there. and then when i put a new portion there it hurts like hell. so the question is: am i snusing wrong? i always dry my upper lip before putting the snus in. should i left it moist so that it wont get sore?

2: what snus brand do you recommend for a newbie? for daily use? as an option for smoking?

    Please help me!

Your lip is sore because it is not used to the salt in the snus; it's perfectly normal, and you'll eventually get used to it. If it is really bad, try putting the portions in different spots until you "toughen up" your lip.

Some people jump right into the stark snus in the beginning, but I chose a well-rounded "midrange" snus to get started (General). The strong ones work well for most former smokers, but the nicotine delivery is a lot different, so you have to take that into account.

My votes for good starter snus are: General, Catch, Ettan, Grov and Roda Lacket.

You definitely want to switch sides. I switch sides each time I snus. I also roll the portion on my tongue for a few seconds to get it moist, and them I push it under my lip with my tongue... My lip was a little sore for the first few days, but it's gone away completely now...

You'll probably find that your taste in suns will change over time, so it's hard to recommend a snus. I ordered the Swedish Match selector box in portions. You'll get 8 different varieties plus a few freebies...

One last thing, you may have trouble switching from smoking to snus right away. It took me about 2 weeks, and I gradually reduced my smoking...

Portions start getting juicy after about 10 minutes. The juice is what contains the flavor. I always have a drink when I snus, so that accelerates the process.

Your saliva will transmit the taste, pop it in your lip and wait a few minutes.
I won't recommend a specific brand, but if you are trying to quit smoking with snus keep some strong portions on hand. You won't need them all the time but there are times like first thing in the morning and maybe after a meal you will want/need the extra kick. I carry a tin of a normal strength snus and a few portions of strong all the time. I have went from @ 2 packs a day to 1-2 smokes a day. Now I have one when I want not when I need it.

I play with my portions when I use them. I use a portion like candy... poke and prod, suck on the portion... whatever. I use my lip as a temporary storage location, otherwise it's in my mouth getting every last bit of flavor out of it :^D

Everyone here seems to have given you all the relevant advice that a new snuser needs, I think, but I wanted to say welcome to the forum, and remember that everyone snuses a little differently, and rarely do two separate people have the same experience with the same snus. Everyone seems to taste a little something different in them, and like wine, you can never really choose a WRONG wine if you enjoy it, but sometimes advice from someone more experienced can lead you to a wonderful experience.
