Hamster, one thing I've noticed is a lot of people don't place snus close enough to the center of their upper lip when they first try snus. I sent an order to my brother in CA last year and he stated that he liked it but could not keep a portion in for more than 15 minutes. When I was last out visiting I noticed that he was placing it far back in his cheek which was causing it to juice. After trying it much closer to the front he had a much better experience.

      Hey Hamster.
Glad to see you're liking it. Here's a few of my suggestions.

      - Placement of the Snus, in the beginning.
You might be placing it too far to the side, it's easy for it to start leaking or dripping. But I'm sure you do not want to place it right on the middle of your upper lip cause it really looks ... weird. Find the right place and feeling

      - The right Snus
General White Portion and General basically is not my type of snus, I hate the original smell and taste of it. Other snuses are fine, but not General. I used it for a good while but started disliking it. The only ones with General I like is Strong and Onyx. Im dying to try the Extra Strong though.

I suggest you try a few different snuses, test them and find the right one for you. I'm a huge Skruf fan, so if you can get your hands on a box of it, I'd recommend it.

Concerning what you said about swallowing the juices, this will come by time. I can take it now, no problem. But I am sure not many people would if too much just dripped down into their mouths :P. It'll come by time.

      Have fun,

A good tip I got from this forum was to press against the little flap of skin in the front lip, and don't mess with what ever you've shoved up there too much. Relax, and enjoy....watch your watch....for me, it's about 10 min.

          I'm new to this also!

Hello, I'm also new to snus, today I bought the new camel snus, I like it so far but I do have one question...
Does it matter if you put it in your upper lip or lower?
cuz right now I have it in my lower lip and I'm diggin it so far but does it hit you harder or is it better if it's in your upper lip..?!

Welcome to the forums! I have not tried Camel, but from what I've heard, it does not have the same level of nicotine as Swedish snus. With portions it does not matter if you use them in the upper or lower lip. However if you put them in your lower lip they will make more juice which may be overwhelming to some people.

As of now, the majority of Swedish snus is pouch style. It's known as portion snus, as opposed to lös or loose snus. Search around the forums, ask questions, and go to some e-stores like buysnus.com or getsnus.com for ideas...

Traditionally it's usually used in the top lip close to the center although I may move a portion further back when the flavor starts slowing down.

hey guys, figured i'd post in this "new guy" thread instead of starting another.

heard about snus through a different forum, and became interested. i have been a regular skoal user for 2ish years now, but its pretty gross carrying around a spit cup whenever i want a fix. people dont really appreciate it.

my question is, as an experienced "dipper", is the technique the same with a dip and snus, as far as packing and placing in your lip (though i see snus goes upper lip)? is loose snus more enjoyable to pouches? for anyone who used to dip skoal, is it the same as pouches vs loose?

pretty much. I've used dip while waiting for snus orders to arrive, my preferred spot for any "oral smokeless" is just to the left of the little stringy divider in the upper lip. The left side is slightly stretched from snus use, so dip, lös, portions, pouches whatevv tend to stay put.

When I first started using snus, I would spit all the excess saliva out (similar to dipping). After a few days of doing this, I moved to swallowing some of the juice. When you are comfortable with swallowing some of it, go all the way without spitting once. Your urge to spit will eventually diminish completely; I promise.

I'd second that suggestion! Just be aware that Skruf Stark is a high Nicotine portion snus. Higher that regular General portions. I personally like all of Skruf's products and, buy Skruf Stark lös, Skruf Stark Portions and Tranbär by the roll!

Yep............I'm a Skruf whore!!

I have be chewing all kinds of tobacco for about 28 years. I use lös snus and spit out the juice. Do what you want. There is no right way to do it. Chewing is not the most healthy habit; so I figure I can avoid some dangers by not swallowing the stuff.
Chewing lös snus for an experienced Skoal guy just means remembering your fine cut experiences. Leave it alone. I do not pack it, but pick it up from the can with a spoon and tuck it away with my tongue. I use a different place every time to give my gums a break.
