Brand new and full of silly questions.

Ok, so I discovered snus last night at my local 7-11. It is made by Camel. No one I know has ever evn heard of it before, but after one night, I LOVE IT!!!

I smoke 1-2 packs of ciggarettes a week currently. Never been a big smoker, but I love the flavor of a good ciggarette (or cigar for that matter) and I love the time to myself that ciggarettes give me. However, my long-time g/f is totally anti-tabacco and so I have to hide my ciggarette smoking. I feel snus might be a way to get my vitamin-n and make her happy at the same time.

To that effect, I got a question or two.

How long do you usually leave the snus in? I had it in for about 2 hours earlyer today, and I took it out, but boy howdy I sure didn't want to.

The first two times I snused (is that a word?), I put it in my lower lip. Do people do this? Will I get a stronger/less strong rush from doing it that way?

The Camel snus came in little packets. Does most snus come this way or do you have to pack it yourself? How hard is it get the hang of it (I cannot roll my own ciggarettes).

Any good starter Swedish snus (in packets preferably) that you would recommend? I would like something with a little more kick than the American stuff.

The Camel snus is all mildly flavored (slight fruit or mint flavor) is most snus like this?

That is all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance!

    Ciao.

Most of us leave one in from 20 minutes to a few hours. Keep it in until you want to get rid of it or it loses flavor. No real rules here.

The traditional way is in the upper lip to one side or the other of the divider.

Two choices ..Portions, like camel in bags, or loose more like dip. No need to roll your own.

Portion mix box from one of the Swedish suppliers.

Most snus is subtle in flavor. noobs taste mainly salt, after a few days you start to notice the other flavors.

That is all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance!

    Ciao.

Hope that helps. Welcome to the forum.

      check out these for starting

      http://www.buysnus.com/snusbrand/The_Mix_-_portion.aspx

      You get a random mix.

      http://www.buysnus.com/snusbrand/Swedish_Match_Tasting_Kit_Regular_Large_(8_cans).aspx

This is what TBD was talking about. Shop around for the best deal, and each one seams to be a little different, even though its all from Swedish Match. Check Stores and Online Shops to find good dealers.

Welcome to the forums! To answer your question, the majority of Swedish snus is in packets, otherwise known as "portion snus". I've never had Camel, but from what I've heard it's much sweeter than Swedish snus which is quite salty.

I started out with the Swedish Match portion box, and I would recommend that to anyone who wants to try it without spending a lot of money. All the snus in that is average to very good snus. With the buysnus.com random order you could get some very good snus, but you might also get some that's just horrid...

I like the Northerner try out box for someone new to Swedish snus. You get brands from companies other than Swedish Match, and it's gives a good overview of the different styles available. It's costs more than the Swedish Match sampler, but is a better value in the end.

Ok, so I took your advice and got the Northerner Snus Mix Portion box.

            http://www.northerner.com/html/snus-...x_portion.html

Just arrived today and I am all excited!!!

So, any suggestions on which tin I should crack first? I am guessing it is probably a good idea to crack the tins one at a time, as opposed to opening them all and trying one portion from each, like I want to do. And how should I store all these extra cans, considering I probably won't get thru the whole thing for a month or two. Should I just refrigerate all the cans or should I stick some of the stronger stuff into the freezer for a bit?

Thanks for helping me pick a nice mix pack. I will probably try the other suggested mix pack next time I need more snus.

            Ciao

I'd open about two at a time, and keep them in the fridge, and the others in the freezer. General (regular) and Roda Lacket are two good first picks IMHO.

General is a peppery portion with a bit of citrus and Roda Lacket is one of the sweeter ones.

Honestly, I wouldn't have picked the mix with all of the mini portions and catch crap. I figure a lot of those you may not like...I know I wouldn't. I like the mixes with all large portions. Although you will get to try a maxi portion too, which is nice.

Wow that's a good assortment at a great price. I tend to use the mini portions in the morning before breakfast. Switch to regulars after I've eaten and use a couple strong ones in the evening. Others do the opposite. I can't keep myself from just opening all the different cans and using a different flavor everytime I pop one in lol.

I like the minis for at the office where I have to be super discreet. Good thing I'm only there for a couple hours a day. On the road the rest of the day.

DragonDai, it takes about a month for a new snuser's body to get fully acclimated to the salt. After about a month, you will hardly notice the salt at all
