Newbie with some questions...

Hello from Southern California! Long time reader, first time poster.


I am a relatively new snusser.. less than 2 months. I have never smoked in my life (being that my profession does not allow it), but I have been dipping (american long cut) for over 4 years.


Now I have tried the following snus:

Skruf Stark
Nick and Johnny East
Jakkobsons Icy Fruit
Gots Rape mini
Gots Rape No 2
General Onyx

(all portions)



After about a roll of Skruf Stark, I still can't use to it. Honestly, I don't even taste anything but a weird, acidic flavor. I don't get a nicotine high with it- nothing really.

N&J East was tolerable, however after about 15 minutes the juices that began to flow were very underpowering for my tastes.

Jakobssons Icy Fruit was the most bearable snus I've tried so far. Decent for the first 20 minutes with the nice minty fruit taste, but when I get to the juices, I have to take it out. Tastes like I'm eating dirt mixed with mouth wash =/

Gots mini portion was decent, but not convincing enough for me to be considered buying again. No2 was.. eh.


General Onyx was ok. but for the price, I wouldnt consider buying again.





The problem with all the above Snus is that.. None of them give me the familiarity and taste of the traditional dip that I had used for soooo long. It really makes me want to go back to traditional long cut, but I know all the positive health effects that snus has. Most of the snus I have tried is bearable, but really hasn't given me that "at home" feeling I have been longing for.





I know that snus isn't supposed to resemble american dip, but my question is What snus brands have a resemblance in taste that is comparable to american dip?



Sidenote: my next order has the following:

CatchDry Cassis Menthol
Gotlandssnus Gulsnus (Yellow) Portion
Lucky Strike White Portion
Mocca Pomegranate
Offroad - Cranberry Portion
Offroad Limited - Apple Portion
Probe Portion
Röda Lacket White Portion
And a 10 - pack mixed portion


Any of the following have the resemblance of american dip?

Give offroad longcut a shot, or give a can of loose snus with one of the plain tobacco flavors a shot. I recommend Ettan, since it has a coarser texture. You'll find the tastes and effects of having loose snus in your lip is a whole lot different (most of the time) than using the portions.

I was never really a huge dipper though. I smoked for about 8 years and then briefly used some of the large pouch american dip (only used straight dip a few times) before switching to snus. Maybe some that used to dip a lot can give you some other recommendations.

I agree. This is probaly my least favorite snus, I would choose Offroad before buying this again.

I love Skruf Stark personally, but it's nothing like American dip if that's what you like.

I was in the same position as you, and my advice is lucky strike, pall mall and ETTAN.

I honestly wouldn't bother with at least half of your order- the more flavored ones. Ettan is one that to me tastes like red man or like I wish skoal/copenhagen tasted. very simple taste and not too much juicing.

my other bit of advice is although I prefer loose american dip, I liked portioned snus much better than loose.

If you want a buzz, throw in 2. to me it feels like the equivalent of self-portioned american dip. if you do 2 every time, you still get 12 "dips" in a can.

heh.. I knew I forgot to add Ettan on my last order. I'll be sure to include that on my next order. Thanks for the input guys.

I dipped and did Redman Leaf before that. Something like 28 years. I got to like snus more than Skoal Longcut Mint. Give it time and I bet the same will happen with you.

Gotlands Yellow, Gray and Skruf lös are my favorites. Your mileage may vary.

Its all about prefrences some like the full tobacoo flavor others the more complicated ones, it you dipped though id say give Knox loose a try or Roda Lacket they have a more solid tobacco flavor and give General's other products a try they are a bit cheaper and are pretty good! As for me i really love Skruf but to each his own right? There are tons to try so dont give up yet
