It's a fine line. The closer you get to it the better, but once you're over, it sucks. But you get to at least move the line with tolerance.

I actually did an experiment with brewing some knox portions into some sweet tea, and while the taste is good, the nicotine alters the mouthfeel of the tea so that it's very tannic. Those of you who are into wine know what tannins feel like, but for those of you who don't, it's kind of a drying, fuzzy feeling on your tongue, like you stuck your tongue out for a couple minutes, then tried to work up some spit. Red wines are heavy on tannins, which is why you age them, it causes the tannin to break down, and the wine to feel smoother in the mouth. Also, protein can moderate tannins, so a hamburger or turkey sandwich could hide some of that feel as well. I've been letting the tea sit for a couple months in my fridge, so I'll retry it here in a bit and see if it's softened any...

I suggest using your USED portions for steeping. No need to waste a tasty fresh bag. Don't forget your stomach will hate you.

Actually, I am technically a "chemist". I graduate with my masters in Chemistry this June and teach chem labs at the university i go to. Whatever.

That being said, you could possibly raise the pH of your mouth by chewing on some antacids or swishing a cup of sodium bicarbonate and water. Although I doubt you would want to eat a Rolaid pre-snus. Sodium carbonate (soda ash) would NOT be a good idea to ingest straight. They make glass with soda ash. Yum. Most peoples mouths are slighty acidic and this can vary depending on physiology and what you just ate or drank. Considering alot of snus users drink Coke/Dr. Pepper/soda this just makes you mouth more acidic.

Getting your mouth too basic would damage your soft parts and could possibly erode your teeth. You could possibly soak a portion in a basic solution or something reactive to protonate (raise basicity) the nicotine, but doing so would probably burn a hole in your mouth due to what you dipped it in.

              - Hell with it, I'm gonna chug some Alka-Setzer and report back!

I remember organic 2. Pretty fun. Lots of stinky chemicals and glassware. I'm currently at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Yeah, my handle Redox stands for oxidation-reduction reactions. Ubernerd here :P

jnkyo07, same methods described here can be applied when chewing coca leaves - just in case.

That is until I started playing with snuff last week, and learned the joy of finally controlling my nicotine intake and just how good the perfect buzz feels. Too much, and I too don't feel good. But "just enough" was heavenly. I am eagerly awaiting my bullet from Nicotinerush, as I think it will allow me to play with snuff more frequently.
                        YYYep!
Got my bullet (dosing type) a while back. I like the handy portability of it, though at the cafe' or at work I guess people figure I'm blasting coke or junk. O well. I prefer snuffing off my hand or other smooth handy object (pun there) at home. larger dose and a big lipper of Ettan works 4 me!!!

I'm finding more and more, now that I'm an inveterate snusser, that the buzz keeps getting more and more subtle. That's why I need a nostril full of Toque or Wilson's snuff sometimes with my portion in the evening. And if I want a really brutal nic buzz, Rooster [the American nasal snuff] does it, and makes your nose smell like a BBQ for several hours.

                          8)

if you want a big hit do a hillbilly pinch and shove it up there. By far the strongest nicotine hit i have experienced.

I've actually resorted to having to keep the portions in longer. kind of a shame - i miss the kick i used to get.

it used to be i kept it in for about 5-15 minutes. now it's 20 minutes minimum.

I tried a rolaid, making sure I rubbed it along my gums really well too. BAD mistake. As soon as you put the snus in your mouth, it feels like it's going to eat a hole in your mouth. Too much base, BAD.
