Braces? F*@#!

I must admit, that's a problem I've never really thought about. I guess you would probably just have to move your portions further back near your molars, where there is more space. Otherwise, I figure they would be fine up front if you can keep them far enough up in your lip.
I'm not sure about los; that one might be a bit of a hassle.

Here is my thought.
Do you feel you need braces. As far as I know braces are for cosmetic reasons, if you feel your teeth look fine then tell the doctor no and that you don't wnat them. That is what I did. My dentist said I needed braces I smiled in the mirror and said no I don't. He didn't say anything ever after that. My teeth aren't perfect, but they are far from terrible, not one person I have met has ever said that I need braces even when asked if I should get them.
So 1) they make money off of stuff like this, if you are fine with your image and don't want to deal with 2-4 years of metal in your mouth and constant upkeep then just live with the teeth god gave your.
But, if your teeth really are bad then I would ge tthem 2-4 years of inconvience will be worth it if you have a wonderful set of teeth for the next 40 years.

My dentist told me and my family I will "definitely need braces" and that though only a few teeth are out of line now, they will grow to be more misaligned. this is when I was about 8.
Well, my parents didn't believe it, I didn't get braces, and my teeth actually fell into better allignment, not worse. A quick check reveals 5-6 teeth that are simply slightly off.
The seconds dentristry adventure came when I was 18. My wisdom teeth were coming in, and everyone around me told me to get them surgically removed at soon as possible, except my mom. She said that hers came in, hurt for a while, and now they cause no problems.
After researching the topic, I simply hoped they'd come in fine and not effect me since It went that way in my family(sometimes they really do have to be removed). I now have wisdom teeth.
So yeah, my point is that dentists make money from this stuff and unlike doctors, I'd guess half of what they do is purely cosmetic. You are a full grown adult male, your teeth are gonna be as they are until they start falling out. If you like them how they are, don't believe the hype about teeth growing more out of line and jumping out of your mouth and knocking over 711s or whatever they're trying to tell you
sorry too much cofffee

I know a few people with braces that use snus, it doesn't seem to be a problem for them. The only problem is that some of the loose snus may get stuck in the braces, which doesn't exactly look pretty :P

Originally posted by yigsyea i thought i had straight teeth, top and bottom perfectly aligned. However the Dentist told me that it will cause premature wear. Note: I had noticed the lower teeth etching a small groove in the upper front teeth where they met, about a month ago before the dentist. kinda if the groove got big enough the front two teeth would split apart. So i sorta believe the braces thing, it just sux that it would have to be now.
(BTW my worse fear in the world is "my teeth falling out" ill do just about anything that will postpone that event)
i grind my teeth and i have a small groove on the bottom of my front teeth....i notice it....nobody else does
the dentist didnt even notice it until she got in my mouth(go ahead PP...im waiting for that one lol)
so i wouldnt get braces....but im also stubborn as hell

I'll throw something else in here: You ever tried nasal snuff? A lot of guys on here use it, and it would seem to be the perfect alternative, if you're really having problems.

Braces aren't necessarily essential, but I do know people (or their parents) who opted against it and now have some premature grinding issues. This ends up meaning that at some point in your life your jaw will ache like hell and you'll have to wear a mouthguard at night to avoid wrecking your teeth.
As an adult you can probably choose to get invisiline braces that hide well or lingual braces that attach to the inside of the teeth so they don't show at all. They'll mess with your mind a bit since you'll have stuff on the inside of your teeth, but they're very discrete.
As for wisdom teeth, you can always get a second opinion, but in many cases they're simply going to be impacted and must come out. I ended up pulling one that was impacted and its brother on the bottom for good measure, but on the other side of my mouth one tooth came in 1/4 turned in one direction, the other was 1/4 in the other. If left in, they can cause extreme pain as they press forward into the mouth.
