So spitting = doing it wrong?

I've noticed from people's opinions that if you spit you are doing it wrong however, I still keep my uptake of nicotine sufficient and enjoy the process of spitting-I think I unintentionally "suck" on it too.

    Your opinion?

One of the beauties of snus is that it doesn't make you spit or doesn't need you to spit - other tobaccos increase production of saliva such that you end up having to either spit it out or, at one's peril, swallow it. That's not the case with snus. I don't see any reason why you can't spit, though, if you really wanted to, but it's not the traditional way of doing it, no.

I don't like to spit but i don't think there is a totally right way or wrong way to use snus. I imagine if snus ever really catches on here in the south a lot of people will be spitting while using it.

So if you want to suck and spit then suck and spit but just leave me out of it ;-)

well it seems to me the general consensus of enjoyment of snus has nothing to do with spitting.

yet, we have these complicated flavors that sort of leave us new guys up in the air about what it really tastes like without getting it throughout the mouth, therefore requiring saliva and of course causing to spit....
I'm confused. is it supposed to be more related to the nose and air in the mouth to get the aroma rather than the 'taste'?

I have an extremely hard time not spitting a few times when using snus as is generally suggested (under side-center of upper lip) and not drowning it in saliva to retrieve flavor...it still causes me to get a rather moist mouth and I absolutely hate swallowing any tobacco-tinged saliva so I'm still spitting despite it causes nowhere near as much inevitable goop as dip does.
do the non spitting snus users usually swallow whatever taste they have in their mouth? I've tried doing this and it just makes my stomach get pretty irritable.

I don't think anything is wrong with spitting if you want to. I do think that snus is designed for the non-spitter (maybe i just invented a new word ha). So as I am a non-spitter my snus is gonna taste different than yours does. But if you like it that way then it don't matter what I or anyone else thinks the way I see it.

I have gave a sample or two of my snus to local dip users. They used it just like they was used to using cope. I figure that before long there will be a lot of spitting snus users here in the states. Some dip users are learning that snus is not as dangerus (or is said not to be) as us dip. Like this one guy I know who was a dipper. He was interested in changing to snus not because he liked it so much but because he had been using cope for 20 years and thought snus might help him from getting cancer.

I can tell you this. Fact: Snus will never taste just like dip. Fact: There are a few select brands that come closer to a dip taste. Fact: Swedish Match is trying to develop snus brands that target the US dip user.
To spit or not to spit, that is the question... Sorry could not help myself

well the thing is I don't like it that way...I hate spitting and having to flush my mouth out and hack out the phlegm that has spawned at the back of my throat for a half hour afterwards like i do with dip. that is why i'm trying to get into snus.

I mean I'm not trying to say there's this 'right or wrong' style to feel cool about other than the fact that the majority of snus users don't spit (or so my impression is)...not out of being 'proper', but because it is the best way to use it apparently. Otherwise if it was more enjoyable to use it like dip or get the spit going, snus wouldn't have a reputation for having no spit of course.
so it's not to say spit is 'doing it wrong' in the context of not doing it the traditional way because you're expected to, but not doing it the most effective way because the snus would be better if you didn't i would presume.

I see what your saying now. Not spitting won't hurt you (i am not a doctor). When I first started snusing I did it to quit smoking. I would not dip because of the spitting. I had played around with dip as a kid and knew about it. So when I started snusing I told myself that no matter what I would not spit period. So I forced myself not to spit at times and sometimes it was hard not to because of that stigma about getting sick off chewing tobacco thing. Now I don't think anymore about it than you would if you was eating candy. I don't think if i should spit or not spit, i just snus. That's the best way i can think to put it for myself.

I think as one gets better at rolling a pris, as well, the pris tends to stay together better and so there's less of the snus going to mush and less seeming need to spit anything out.

I spit like crazy on the chairlift when I put in a monster pris of Knox. I enjoy it. This is why your parents told you not to eat snow.

True!. I watched all of storm's youtube vids and e-mailed back and forth with him a bit prior to finding this site.

Good to see so many cool people on this site! It would be cool if you guys made me a video about snus sometime so I could see your face instead of text. If it's a really good video i would make one with my wife in it using snus! well, if she lets me!

I'm still a sn00b, but reading around at this forum it seems that a fair amount of new or new-ish snusers don't realize the big difference between placing the snus in one's front upper lip and one's side upper lip. In the front it stays much drier, whereas in the sides it tends to get wetter from saliva, which might cause one to require spitting. Of course it seems different brands are "runnier" than others, but the placement seems to make a great deal of difference.

In fact, as my portions run a bit dry after a while, I'll switch their placement to the sides to get the last out of them before I discard them.

Hope that helps. If I didn't know the distinction and started with a portion in the side, I don't think I would continue with snus at all. It can get very unpleasant, especially trying to swallow all of that tobacco juice.
