    folded technique

so I'm still slightly worried about my mild gum recession(though it has improved). It hasn't happened in my lower lip(the "dip" spot") but after snusing there exclusively for several weeks, the flesh looked discolored. So I started rotating again, but didn't want it to hang on my gumline.

Then I remembered the "sausage" or "folded" method that I read about here. You flatten out a portion as best you can, fold it in half, and stick it firmly in place.

I haven't seen the long term results yet, but I'm excited that its purely on my gums, and it also seems to stretch out the hit a bit. I don't do it in the morning, but afterwards, folded portions seem to "flow" smoother, instead of getting a hit I get a comforting breeze of nicotine.

of course, I might be imagining that. any personal experiences with this usage pattern?

I don't do it that way anymore mainly because I find it to be uncomfortable, as well as making the bulge under your lip freakishly huge in one spot. I don't seem to have a problem using portions in a normal manner anymore....I think it's because I've finally developed big enough pockets under my lip to where the portions don't hang over onto my teeth like they used to.

I use this method sometimes, usually a third of the time. It's mainly because it stays out of the way more, rather than because I worry about my gums. I think snus is a lot easier on my gums than Copenhagen ever was, and I haven't noticed any recession from it. Brushing too aggressively and too often, however, definitely caused some recession.

When I use the fold method I get more of a bulge in my lip, but it's not too big a deal down here in the South. No one really gives a damn on campus since it's so commonplace to see someone throw a dip in. It takes a little longer for the juices to flow, but not too much difference for the nicotine absorption. Maybe a few minutes longer, but nothing too big. And it does seem to go on a little longer because it takes the juices a bit more to get going, and doesn't seem to get too heavy since all the snus is compacted more densely.

I fold it every once in a while, but never in public. It's usually towards the end of a portion, and I'm too lazy to get up and get a new one...

I always fold my portions hot dog style. If I don't, they come down past my upper lip and make thing uncomfortable. Folding the portion does make for more of a bulge, but I have a mustache that renders it almost completely unnoticeable.

One relative of the fold method which i subscribe to, is this. When i place a portion, i'll put my pinky in the center of the portion. Then I quickly shove the portion to the top of my upper lip, right above my front teeth, slightly off center. Its more of a scrunch than a fold, but i avoid the snarl because it is very compact up there.

Oh, that's right. Me had to draw my facial hair on as the beard look doesn't work well for me. Grows in two different colors.
