    Los V. Portion

I bought a few cans of portion snus because I like the ease of the pouches. But I was curious as to what makes los superior to portion. Or is it just about preference?

Also, what would be a good starter los snus.

It's really just preference IMO. I would start with an easy to bake snus like roda, gr, general, ettan, or grov. You might want to get some coarser ones for comparison like gotlands.

It's really a matter of personal preference. I happen to enjoy the flavor and texture of Ettan los over the portions, but they're both quite nice to be honest. I'll see if it's the same for Grov or not. As far as simplicity goes, however, portions are the best. I wouldn't ever use los in class or anywhere else except in my barracks.

Loose snus doesn't have the pungent flavor that portions have. However, you have to shape it (which takes practice), make sure it doesn't fall apart, and swish your mouth out with water when you're done. In my opinion, the convenience of portions is hard to beat.

Some brands seem to have more flavor as loose, some are better as portions. Some of my favorites don't come in loose. I use loose at home mainly and portions when at work or out running errands and such. Some loose feels better in the lip, and loose seems to get the old nicotine machine started faster. You also have fewer choices in loose.

Lös has a much better mouth feel imo.

Just for the record, I don't swish my mouth out with water after using los. I did for like the first day, but found it very easy to grab the bits with my tongue and spit them out. Tastes great too.

los is superior to portions?? Excuse me??? Be very careful to not spark a forum war here. Yeah, the los users prattle on about how much they love it. But I suspect the silent majority here use portions, and some of us, after rather extensive testing, really think portions are WAY better.

So yeah, let's just say it is just users perspective, but know that some of us really do prefer portions.

And as I have posted elsewhere, I do plan on doing another flirtation with los. And may even come to like using it better. But I will always, always, love my little portion friends..

They are each better for different reasons. What's important is that people have the freedom to choose what products they will use. That is what makes snus great. That is why I am right.

I'd be interested in knowing which is more popular in Sweden, los or portions. Maybe someone who knows can post.

Portions appear to be more popular, and the spent ones are littered all over the ground in populous places, which is not something one sees in the States.

I prefer loose to portions, but there's no beating a portion for convenience. I like loose because it feels more authentic - it gets me closest to the full tobacco experience without any material in the way. It's the difference between a woman in the room who is lightly but permanently clothed and one who is nekkid. Or something.

Nice analogy, although there is some mystique with a woman lightly clothed.

I totally agree. But at some point you may want to take her clothes off, and that's when a loose woman comes in handy. 8)

I like loose because I can keep it in for long periods of time. The flavor takes a bit to rev up, but once it does it lasts for a good long while. It also winds up saving me a bit of money. A can of loose contains 45-50 grams as opposed to a can of portions, which only contains 24-25 grams (less if you use mini portions). The cost per roll is also slightly cheaper. Basically, you get more bang for your buck.

But at the same time, I like portions because they're extremely convenient and discreet. The flavor doesn't last as long as loose, but oh well. Convenience wins over lasting power when I'm out and about.
