Very happy with the skruf stark, seem to be able to handbake well enough.

The gotlands tastes great(fresh, good for morning), but I'm having alot more trouble forming it. Considering buying a tool, but only If I can't get good enough at handbaking.
Yea maybe I should qualify my remarks about gul.

About two years ago Gotlands changed their grind (made it a bit finer). Thus it might be more accurate to say that it is easier to bake than it was before.

Skruf los is one of my all time favorites. It just does so much well

My question for you long time dippers,

How's your gums? This is my main concern, and it really has me contemplating quitting(it all).

I haven't dipped long, but now I think I am noticing more recession on my bottom side teeth.

I think it's my dip/chew use, on top of many other things(42yrs old, high blood sugar/pressure, bad diet, smoked about 20yrs).

It all kinda makes me mad, it seems everything one does has some bad effect.

Tom, if that is where you have been using dip/chew, then that is exactly what happened to me with dip (and why I now use snus exclusively).

I will get salt and pressure texturing from time to time with snus (especially if I fall asleep with one in or if my mouth is dry) but this is very different from what I had with dip.

I would remain leery of dip especially if you have been using it rather regularly for a while now. Chew seems less problematic but I am still concerned about the sugar and the curing process with chew.

Lay off dip/chew and move the snus around from pris to pris and see if this does not clear the problem up.

I wonder if the sweet chew, and dip, is worse for the gums than the natural types, like Copenhagen?

That sweet chew just tastes so good. But I wonder if all that sweet(sugar?) would cause more gum problem than not sweet dips? or a non sweet chew(Havana Blossom?).

I have 4 cans of sweet dip, and 3 pouches of sweet chew, plus 16 cans of snus in my stash, oh and a half can of Copenhagen Natural. This stuff will be somewhat hard to quit, as though I do like snus, I really like a big a chaw of chew.

          Thanks dog.

Tom, as a general rule, I would be less worried about the chew and more worried about the dip. However, all the sugar in chew would be a real concern for me especially if I had and was having gum issues.

Cut back on one at a time and see at what point the problem begins to rectify itself (then you'll have your culprit).

Great info Sunsdog. My first order should be in on Monday or Tuesday and as much as I hate to say it, I hope I can stay away from Cope. Just curious, but do the Snus wintergreens, like the General, do they compare to something like Copenhagen Wintergreen?

I never was a big wintergreen user so I'm not sure I am the best one to answer your question. There are plenty of Wintergreen fans and there have been quite a few threads dedicated to the subject. You might want to run a search using wintergreen as the key word (I'd search the treads first then posts)

That said, I would not spend too much time looking for snus that is like _____________dip. Snus that tries to be like American dip usually sucks. Approach snus as a completely independent product and let it stand on it's own merits.

One more thing: lower lip when you want to, learn to upper deck it, and put the cope down for a month. I think you will find snus more than replaces dip

Skoal wintergreen was one of my dips of choice back in the day. I have always been a big fan of wintergreen. General WG is good, but it does not taste like wintergreen dip to me. The Offroad longcut and Thunder wintergreens are closer, but again, snus is not going to taste like dip. My advice would be to try all the WG flavored snuses and see which one you like best. My "substitue" for wintergreen dip is the Offroad longcut, I find it very easy to just pinch and throw in, upper or lower deck. If you like Cope straight, I would suggest Grov los, although again, nothing can really compare to the Cope flavor. After a while, my tastes adjusted and I prefer the flavor of snus more than dip now.

My experience with dip was similar. I have some bad recession in my lower left gum, where I used to place my dip. But after snusing for about 2 years, I don't have any recession or gum pain in my upper gums, and when I do lower deck the snus it doesn't bother me. I get the "salt lip" or whatever it's called, but that clears up after I spit the snus out. I still chew some Redman once in a blue moon, but I never did it on a regular basis, so I can't really say whether that would cause as much recession as dip.

I'm gonna quit dip, because I think the small dip cut packed down is bad for my gums. I do still have a few cans of Gold River, but this stuff is very soft, so when it's gone, I'm not getting any more. But I think I'll continue with loose leaf, I like that more anyway.

I get tagged all the time for being a snus snob but I'm really not. It's just after having done dip for so long and having seen it's end results and then reading posts like the above over and over again..............the risks just are not worth the rewards. I see no reason to fool with it at all especially when there is a better tasting, safer, and less expensive option in snus.

Just put the dip down........................... and back slowly away

I'm a long time Cope user exploring snus use. I like the taste of Grov, I just wish the grind were not so fine. Seems most snus is fine to the point that it feels like clay in the mouth.
