    Quitting smoking tips

Not sure if there is any tips for this but i can hope right.
I've been smoking for well as long as i can remember and have now decided to quit to move to snus, I'm new too snus but i like it (i even like the smell, well the General los smell anyway). However i'm having difficulty stopping smoking, i feel the need for a smoke as much as i did before even when using snus. So hoping for tips but prepared to be dissapointed.
    Thanks all in advance.

When I quit, I quit smoking for health reasons so the choice to me was very easy. It wasn't something that I just "wanted" to do, I felt like I had to.

The human mind is a crazy thing sometimes. Now, in others cases, I am sure it is different. If you fixate on the quiting, you are thinking about smoking more and more. I personally wouldn't worry about it. Instead, enjoy your snus and if you smoke, don't beat yourself up about it!

Over time you may find that you will just not want that cigarette as much and one day it will just all seem normal. When I stopped smoking I used between 12 and 18 portions a day (sometimes two at a time!) to kill the cravings. Now, I am down to 6-8 a day. It did take about 6 months for me to relearn what to do with my hands though. I would get "phantom smoking" reactions based on what I was doing. For example:

Sitting at the computer working - My left hand would reach for a non existent cigarette pack.

When I got in my vehicle to drive around, I would automatically roll down the window, even in the dead of winter (That one freaked me out!)

Looking for my cigarettes and lighter before I leave for work, even though I don't smoke :P

Just relax and enjoy the ride A smoke now and again isn't THAT bad for you. Hell, if you live in a major city you breathe the shit in anyways!

One of the hard parts for me was playing with my lighter. I carried a Zippo everyday for 25 years. When I quit smoking I stopped carrying it. That's when I learned I used my Zippos like a metal worry stone. Subconsciously. When I started snuffing, I began to carry a small wooden snuffbox. I suddenly felt "normal" again. Took a few days to put it together. Now I can't leave the house without my snuffbox.

Long way of saying replace cigs with something else. A friend of mine carried a pen in his hand when he quit smoking. I teased him about looking a bit like Bob Dole, but he needed it to make up for not holding a cigarette all the time. Little things like that seem to be insignificant, but they aren't for some reason. Brains are crazy.

I have posted much about this subject over the years. When I started using snus, it wasn't to quit smoking, I just needed something that would allow me to not leave the sales floor I managed as much as I was. But funny thing then happened, I just fell in love with snus.

        So....

Stop thinking about "quitting" smoking. Don't do that to yourself. Just keep using snus, and smoke every time you feel like it. A magical thing will soon happen, you will just start to reach for the snus more and more, and the cigarettes less and less. The nicotine delivery of snus is so far superior, it WILL win in the end.

Probably took me about 2 - 3 months to stop buying cigarettes on a regular basis. Another year to stop buying a pack every two months. Now, I still have that occasional cigarette when it is what I want, or I am hanging out with a smoker and just want to smoke with them. But now, it is about one cigarette every two months or so.

Many, many folks have quit cigarettes here. For almost all of them, it just finally happened one day. Just keep using the snus, I promise it will win this fight

I havent smoked in 5 or 6 weeks and, just like Sage says, I wasnt really trying. I just felt like I didnt need em anymore after a while and finally threw out all mine cause they were getting old.

I couldnt find a lighter this weekend for my grill. That was sorta weird.

Good advice from everyone here. Don't even think about quitting smoking. Be sure to use the snus, though.

Eventually, you will find yourself accidentally missing a smoke-break now and then. And then, one day you'll find yourself not even thinking about cigarettes most of the time. Not long after, you'll simply stop thinking about them.

I was a hard core, damn near 3 pack a day smoker (Winston regulars) for over 20 years, and snus was the magic bullet that finally broke my habit. Don't give up on snus, just experiment with different brands/flavors, and by the time you discover a favorite or three, you'll probably be well on your way to quitting the smokes for good.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

It's a common misconception that if you start using snus, you will stop smoking instantly. While this is the case for some people, it's not really the norm. I almost quit using snus because I felt it was pointless, since I just ended up lighting up right after I spit it out.

Just consider it an adjustment period; your smoking will eventually taper off, and like the others have said, there is no shame in having a smoke every once in a while.

hey OP, im in the same boat as you in regards to wanting to smoke because it is the "normal" thing I would do in that situation. What I have been doing is buying Ultra light menthol cigarettes (I was a newport smoker for 7 years, you can tell the difference) and it just makes me hate smoking more and more. Sucking the smoke out of that cigarette just blows and at the end I am not satisfied at all. Maybe try something like that?

Anyone else have any tips as to what to do instead of smoking? A common thing for me is to have a cigarette while I play on my PSP and still find it somewhat hard not to have one. However, with my OCD I have it etched in my mind that I can't have a cigarette until atleast 45 mins after having a snus, and vice versa. So I'm just gonna keep that etched in there and won't listen to anything said otherwise ha.

tical00, time will eventually just replace those habits. A year from now, you will talk about never being able to play without a snus in.

Just be patient and do what you feel like doing at that moment. Doesn't matter how often you end up smoking, the snus will not be defeated and will eventually fully take over your soul, you can't stop it.

btw, now, those rare times I have a cigarette, I usually have a snus in too.

Haha, I always thought doing both at once would be a nicotine overload and cause you to puke like dip and smoking does.

Yeah thankfully I get my nic fill by the snus now, those ultra light cigarettes really don't do shit to me.

                              Quiting Smoking

It was funny, I did not want to quit. The doc told me I had emphysema. I thought well, it has only started. One morning I woke up made my coffee lit a butt. looked at it and thought what am I doing. I thought about do they even put tobacco in these things? I remember trying to quit by rolling my own. My body craved the chemicals. I started snussing. I still smoke a pipe once in awhile. (I don't inhale) Snuss is gentle and pure. Don't get me wrong, I love the smell of copenhagen. Like a port wine. But the dip lip, the bad gums. With snuss none of those.I told my doc snuss saved my life. I went to the dentist today. he said my mouth looked great.
I quit three months ago. I am sure the swedes did a lot of research on the product. Thier is no safe cigarette. Don't try to quit all at once. You will come to the conclusion snuss is better. ENJOY!
