Packing the can

Should cans of loose be packed like cans of dip?

A friend of mine wanted to pack my tin of skruf stark but I told him not to since I didn't know if it would ruin snus.

It won't ruin it, but I don't see the point either. It might not be a bad idea if you routinely hillbilly your snus, but if you use an IceTool or handbake, packing it won't help the process at all.

I do it all the time. I've never noticed any issues. Maybe with a very coarsely ground snus you could break it into smaller chunks, but I can't see it actually damaging the product.

Since I suck at packing, I don't really do it. If my los is especially clumpy I'll slam the can against my leg or palm, then shake it from side to side to even out the tobacco.
Doesn't matter I guess.

However, I do pack OR Longcut; makes it easier to pinch like dip.

I don't see how it would hurt it, but then, I don't see what good it would do either.

I just find it gets me a hole in the snus where I can stick my fingers in to grab a pinch, after I've been using a can for a while. Does anyone have any particular justification of why it shouldn't be packed, or is this just people running with the fact that snus is not dip, and trying put as much distance as possible between the two?

No harm has come of it when I do that.

I use several los brands, and when I open the can I like to make a several nice holes in the snus with my Icetool. And before I open the can each time I give it a good slap against my lap a couple times. It gets rid of all the holes I previously made with my Icetool so I can make new ones and get a good solid amount packed into the Icetool each time I dig in.

I always pack my Los before using it. Something just seems "right" about doing it. Haha.

I use los 99.9% of the time and always pack it. I have not purchased an IceTool and always hand bake. I pack it to make a spot for me to get my finger in and I do pre bake my pris against the side of the tin before I finish form it in my hand. I think even if I used an IceTool I would pack it it is just the way I do it. Do people in Sweden pack it?

I pack my los everytime. I think I do it just out of habbit as I still dip on occasion too. Something just feels/looks right about a can of packed snus.

I throw my can around all the time, it packs to to these little balls so you only need to put it in your lip, no need to handbake. :P Tho these days I snus alot with hillbilly method what is nice.

I think that if you are using the hillbilly method than packing the can is a very good idea! I have never tried that method but I would imagine it delivers flavor and vitamin N much much faster!

Skruf Stark Loose is the only one that really needs packing but it doesn't work unless you really whack the crap out of it IMO.
