I just received a can of General loose today (31 Oct.) in the mail from an American store. The best before date reads: 10 23 07. Is it OK to use this product? :? My other can has a best before date sometime this November.
Best Before?

Well, I assume you could, and I already have it shoved up my lip.
First time w/ loose!
Maybe not the freshest, but not bad . . . Still the snus seems moist enough; and as it's my first experience with loose any comments with those pesky best before dates would be great. I think, though, I'm going to avoid the American shops, but the price/shipping was right for single cans; best by dates are another story.

Hi markcat,
the best before date is just a best before date. Unlike other food products, that quickly go sour, snus is still usable months later.
I've used many cans, that were more than 2 months past the date. Just today I've used the last portion from a can, that was best before September 30. It seems I'm always ordering too much.
Certainly the fresher the snus, the better, but the best before date is just not overly meaningful. The moisture of the tobacco is much more important. As long as your snus tastes good, there's no reason to worry IMHO.
Cheers!

I recently posted elsewhere how to freshen up a can of loose if it feels too dry. Can't find it back now but it involves a TINY bit of water and some poking with the finger to distribute moisture evenly.

I would never use an expired snus (but I have a store five minutes away where I can buy a new one on the other hand)...
Cause the portions get kinda dry and hardened when they get old
And the loose is probably becoming a bit dry too.
But it definately won't kill you :P

by MonkeyThis is not the original Skruf Stark Los, but it is pretty darn good.
This snus has a good grind and is not “pasty” like a Prima Fint....-
