They'll pass anti-smoking laws in iowa soon. All states will eventually be non-smoking. I lived in nebraska for 5 years and the city of lincoln has a strict anti-smoking law.

When Camel first hit the market, I had a chance to talk with one of their marketing folks. Given the cost of the roll-out (Providing mini fridges to the retailers), I was curious about why they were putting so much effort and money into marketing snus. She said that Camel believes that within 3 years, you will not be able to smoke in a bar ANYWHERE in the US. Camel is hoping to be ready to take advantage as that happens.

Too bad they have designed such an inferior product. Now if they had come out with something similar to N&J, they would have a hit on their ands as smokers would have no problem making the switch.

Well, it's bad for the smokers if they don't have a good quality product they can switch to, that's definitely true.
Personally, I am not so unhappy about the fact that the Camel/Marlboro "snus" reportedly is an inferior product though. To me, snus is Swedish by tradition and the credits for this superior product should hence go to the Swedes too. I don't really like the fact that Camel and Marlboro go for the snus market because I am convinced that they are not interested in producing a high-quality product like the Swedes do; in my opinion, Camel/Marlboro are only after the market*. Calling their inferior products "snus" is like putting a bad image on the true, Swedish snus and thus spoiling it's value.
Concerning the Swedish snus I can also be sure that it is healthier than cigarettes and has a low health-risk profile while I wouldn't believe that the other well-known tobacco companies that knowingly spoiled all the smokers' health for the past decades will truly be interested in producing healthier-than-cigarettes snus!
So if Camel or Marlboro "snus" won't be a big success, this is not going to bother me at all - contrary, I'd feel kinda satisfied.

*) I do know that the Swedish snus manufacturers are also marketing-oriented, this is no question, and they also try to sell and market their product, sure. But still ist makes a difference to me because it is my opinion that the Swedish producers are proud of their products and quality quidelines while the cigarette companies don't really seem to have any such interests.
