    The Glacier Experiment

For lack of a better term, I am calling this The Glacier Experiment.

As a new snus user, I decided to try something a little different and crazy with my snus portions. Instead of thawing it out from the freezer before use, I took a couple portions, put them in a plastic baggy (making sure i squished out all the excess air) and froze it. Then it went straight from the freezer right into my upper lip.

The effect was quite interesting. Yes it's cold at first, but it doesn't take long for it to thaw in your mouth. Depending on the moisture content of the portion, I ended up with sort of a mini explosion of flavor as the water crystals quickly liquefied and sort of burst into my mouth with yummy snus goodness. Snus is better cold, and going from freezer to lip keeps that fresh/cool feeling a little longer. It's somewhat hard to describe really. If others decide to try this, let me know your experience doing this.

I tried this with a few open portion tins I have already opened of various brands. It works better with the regular portions as they have more moisture than the white portions. I suppose you could do this with loose as well if you bake it first before putting it into the freezer. Some type of pris mold would probably help with this, kinda like an ice tray for snus. The portions weren't squishy while frozen so I imagine putting in a loose pris would be a lot easier if it were frozen as well.

I may try this again, but add a couple drops of water to the portion before putting it into the freezer to see if it will intensify the effect. Thoughts anyone?

I don't think this is that uncommon. Myself I like to let my snus thaw out from their freezer storage before use.

      Re: The Glacier Experiment

I keep a can of loose, and portions in the fridge, the other open cans stay in the freezer. I often take a "frozen" portion, or use the icetool with frozen loose. It doesn't freeze rock hard, so it works perfect in the ice tool. It's just another of the many ways to enjoy snus.

      Happy snussing !!

Glad to see I'm not alone in this. Last night I placed an order. I generally prefer pouches as it keeps it from getting in my teeth, and my wife things loose is gross. But I did include a can of Roda Lacket Loose to experiment with. I chose that brand after reading what others have posted, it's suppose to be easier to bake. I don't have an ice tool or a pris master. I want to master the fine art of hand baking, and to see if I like loose before i purchase a tool.

After I learn how to bake properly, I want to bake one up and freeze it before I snus it. I'm just really curious as to how that will work out. With my order, I picked 2 of my favorites so far (Gotborgs Rape No. 2 portions, and Skruf Stark portions) and the rest are ones I haven't tried. 12 tins ordered total. They also threw in a free random tin of snus as a gift, woohoo! In my order notes, I requested that they don't send me a tin of level, as I've heard too many bad reviews here and elsewhere. I'd rather get more taste testing under my belt first. Some people have commented that LD is just above level. Others say they like it, and others say they don't. I've been snusing a tin of LD white portions for the past week. Even though I'm a new snuser, it isn't bad, but it isn't great either. It's just good enough for the price I think. It doesn't keep it's flavor that long though. I did order LD Juniper, and LD black, as I love juniper and licorice as a change, and those seem to be the ones people like the most. I'll eventually try each brand and flavor once. (yes even Level *shudders* though I'm dreading it.) It's too bad no one else I know uses snus so I could try a portion or 2 of their brands without having to order an entire tin.

I still think that they should sell a different tryout pack. (The Ultimate tryout pack: a blister packaged sheet of snus pouches, 2 pouches per brand, of every brand) That would make taste testing a lot cheaper I think, and easier to find out what you like and don't like.

I actually prefer to keep my cans frozen and pop it right in the upper lip from the freezer. I think it tastes so much better than from the fridge.
