    Box passes after Pact Act

    I was wondering what is going to happen with box passes once the Pact Act is in effect. I thought I would ask here and see what you guys had to say. Another site won't allow them till they talk to legal counsel. I may be wrong but i feel that is a little unnecessary.

    I intend to do the one I am on now, then quit for the most part.

    There is a 10 ounce exemption that I might abuse for special box passes - i.e. the SnusX one we talked about.

    I may also do some direct mail exchanges.

    I think it depends on UPS.

      I think I know which one you're talking about, Bdubz, and I agree it's a bit overboard IMO, but I follow what the powers that be say.

      I don't see a problem with Box Passes and I think they ought to continue. Might need to do smaller ones, with a smaller group of people on each pass. Or simply not disclose the contents of the box. I really don't see how the USPS is going to be able to intercept a box pass here or there given the insane amount of priority packages that traverse the mail system everyday. I can't imagine there's more then 50 passes of tobaccoo products (snus, cigars, pipe tobacco, RYO, dip; Since I'm sure snussers aren't the only folks that have that idea) at any one time. It would be hard to intercept that small of a percetage.

      As I see, it'll probably be a do at your own risk thing, don't be surprised if box passes disappear from time to time, and that seems to happen anyway. It's an inherint risk to a generally fun pastime. I know I hope they'll continue.

          I can probably do a 1 day turn around as soon as I get it.

          If it's after 6/29 I think it just needs sent UPS.

          My understanding is that UPS does not ship cigarettes and this does not apply to this box. http://www.ups.com/tobacco

          I'm not a fan of the law, but I pretty much follow Federal laws.

            I don't think we have anything to worry about. If there's nothing liquid, hazardous, or perishable (though the last two are debatable) then they can't ask you what's in there. For the post office, I think it's probably not worth the fine to open someone's personal mail considering the fallout it may bring. I can see if you shipped out a large box from your residence or PO every week then it might raise an eyebrow, but for standard operating procedures I wouldn't worry about it.

                Section 3 of the PACT Act pertains to the Postal Service and
                creates a new Section 1716E of Title 18, U.S. Code. Section 3 of the
                PACT Act provides that, subject to certain exceptions, cigarettes,
                including roll-your-own tobacco and smokeless tobacco are nonmailable.
                Exceptions in the PACT Act permit the mailing of cigarettes and/or
                smokeless tobacco in narrowly defined circumstances, as described
                below.
                Noncontiguous States: Intrastate shipments within Alaska
                or Hawaii;
                Business/Regulatory Purposes: Shipments transmitted
                between verified and authorized tobacco industry businesses for
                business purposes, or between such businesses and Federal or state
                agencies for regulatory purposes;
                Certain Individuals: Infrequent, lightweight shipments
                mailed between adult individuals;

                certain individuals I think would apply to your box passes

                  What they don't know won't hurt them! It's not like there going to have snus smelling dogs in the sorting area! Be real, they don't want to put out any more effort than they have to to get your package away from them and to the recipient!

                    Thanks for the knowledge guys. I just kind of wanted to see other peoples thoughts. Someone on another site believes that the site will become legally responsible for people sending box passes. Is that the case or is that BS?

                    Edit: Please throw my name in on that boob box.

                      I always tell my post office my packages are perishable, they don't ask what is in the contents. They stamp it and it usaually beats non-perishable mail by three days. I don't see a problem wih USPS after PACT for box passes.

                        I agree, but there is a 10 oz limit. So, like 1 roll.

                        Well, technically it will be a federal crime punishable by fine and/or imprisonment if you do not meet one of the exceptions.

                        That's a problem for me (while understanding that it might not be for others).

                          I don't know - you might be able to make the case for that. Accessory, or conspiracy or something.

                          It seems pretty far-fetched though.

                            Great idea Mike. I always just say no. Next time we trade I'll do that

                              That's like saying because you bought some fertilizer and had it in your garage and someone took it and it killed there plants that you are responsible for killing there plants.
