    Snus in NYC

I will likely be in Manhattan for a day or two over Thanksgiving weekend. I found some old threads that mention Shisha International and a couple of other stores that have carried Swedish Snus.

Does anyone have any current reports on selection and prices?

I live in the Boston area, so I have hoping to find something other than the two flavors of General that I was able to buy up in NH.

General is all you'll find in the city. Theres a few places in Brooklyn that are suppose to carry V2 and Gotlandssnus brands... but thats unconfirmed.

I am not sure about what they carry but Northerner supplies to a few stores in New York.

You can try asking in the New York forum back on City Data.

There must be some smokeless tobacco users there.

I managed to visit a few tobacco shops in Manhattan.

The only Swedish snus that I found was General Snus coolers at the following shops:

          Shisha International ($8/can)
          171 4th St

          Smoke Scene ($8/can)
          845 7th Avenue

          Village Smoke Shop ($7/can)
317 Avenue of the Americas (6th ave)

I went in some other stores that I came across while wandering around the city, but I did not find any others with Swedish Snus. Some shops have Skoal, also priced around $8/can. I was also looking for American nasal snuff and did not find any domestic or foreign dry snuff at the shops that I was able to vist in Manhattan.

The one unexpected find was a packet of Indian Chaini Khaini (cardamon flavor) portion snus in the Indian shopping area at Jackson Heights, Queens. It was priced at 1.00 for 10 portions in a resealable foil pouch. I picked up a few small packets of gutka mouth tobacco while buying some Madras snuff at a shop and didn't even realize that I had a packet of snus until I was looking over the packages back at the hotel room. These portions are small with a taste similar to Paan Parang betel nut paan masala and a strong menthol bite.

            Another store stocking General...
Too late for the original poster but I came to NY on vacation in May. Was running low on snus by the end of my trip so I asked around some of the tobacco stores that I came across and got pointed in the direction of Barclay Rex (70 East 42nd Street, almost opposite Grand Central). They had a small selection of General in a mini fridge (great for me as I use General White portion).

Barclay Rex would have been my first guess when it comes to NYC. Pipe & tobacco shops are probably the best bet for finding at least a few brands of snus and/or nasal snuff. Some actually have quite a nice selection, like Iwan Ries in downtown Chicago.

Unfortunately, none of those are near me. :-( My local B&M carries only General and Camel snus, and three brands of American Scotch snuff.
