    Foreign Transaction Fee

After making an order from Getnus recently, I noticed on my CC statement a ' Foreign Transaction Fee' of $1.75. Is this new? Or did I just never notice it?

Now, on top of rediculous shipping charges and tobacco taxes, I also have to pay a $1.75 fee for an international transaction...

This is just getting too expensive..

If you payed by bank transfer, then this is standard, and cheap actually. If not then maybe I haven't noticed it either, or it's new

Yea, that's a fee for currency conversion. Odd you'd get it from Getsnus though. I'd have thought they were dealing in US $ since they ship from USA.

I ordered from Getsnus, but on the statement is says NORTHERNER Mondial SE.. I suppose Getsnus just ships the snus out but the financial transactions go to Northerner in Sweden.

        I payed by credit card.

Please tell me this is a mistake. Lets see here. Higher prices, slow and expensive shipping, no Fredrik and now a foreign transaction fee.

Northerner has really went downhill fast. Only 4 or 5 months ago it was a much better option than BuySnus.

Is it the bank that charges the extra fee or Northerner? If it is Northerner why dont it show up on the invoice that came with the snus?

You are correct - the base rate for a roll of of Gellivare is now at $32.14 before taxes and shipping. The base rate on Granit is $26.97 at buysnus.com. I am beginning to wonder if it might be worth it to bite the bullet and just order from them. The tax paperwork looks like a pain but it might even be cheaper to go this way.

the International fee depends on how much you spend I just spent $202 with buysnus and my international fee was $6.06

This is something that the bank tacks on because they can. It's buried somewhere in fine print in the contract, probably recent since I never noticed it until lately. It seems like these banks change the terms-and-conditions every couple of months, and the changes are never anything in the consumer's favor.

I had the fee on a Northerner order, I suppose since Northerner processes the transactions overseas. I also had one for a Paypal transaction with Dealextreme in China that I paid via my card.

                              ~
                              Credit Card Foreign Transaction Fees

"With new credit card rules squeezing profit margins at major banks, foreign travelers have become an even easier target for special fees and surcharges. Credit card issuers have traditionally imposed foreign transaction fees to offset the cost of fraud prevention and currency exchange services. Many banks now generate profits from foreign transactions, forcing savvy visitors to hunt for the best deals among issuers."

"Capital One ... bank branches in both the United States and the United Kingdom give it a competitive advantage in America and Europe. Therefore, Capital One charges no foreign transaction fees of any kind."

                              • American Express - 2-3%, depending on member status
                              • Bank of America - 3%
                              • Chase - 3%
