Customs are a mob of cake eaters

Ordered a can of Stokers Straight and a mud jug. I paid $8.80 for the stokers. Australian Customs wan't $161.65 in taxes and duties. I rang them and said. Throw the Stokers in the bin, Send me the Mud jug. THEY SAID! No problem sir, Just pay $161.65 first.
2 problems here. 1. I am not pay tax for a peace of plastic 2. Don't call me SIR!

    LoL thats tellin them!

Quick question, in Australia is cake eater an insult? It sounds funny honestly.. If I called someone a cake eater in the US they mostly likely say "of course i love cake"

What is the tax rate there? That doesn't sound right.

Kind of makes me think that they may have snagged 2 out of your 3 trades and kept them. I know that I'll be wary of sending international trades from now on, too.

Duty as it turns out is $420.43 per kilo plus our goods and service tax wich is about 10% ontop.

Ya gotta keep the orders small. Ordering a large can will likely cause a bill from customs like you've found out.

5 cans of snus will more than likely come through without being checked and sometimes even if it is checked they don't bother with the bill. I been buying snus and nasal snuff over the last year and a bit, here in Sydney, and I've been charged tax 3 times. Last time I got taxed I ordered 13 cans from Buysnus but 5 cans got pulled up and I had to pay $56 odd in tax. Biggest tax I've been slugged with was before the tax hike, when the tax rate was $300 odd a kilo, I ordered 22 cans from the Northerner and got slugged with a $195 bill.

Sucks that the mud jug got held back but it really is the tax on the chew you'd have to pay rather than the jug. Still they could cut you a break and seperate the taxable goods. Still having to pay tax on water is a bit rich also, since snus is 50% water, probably chew is similar. Must really be the lucky country. Not!

I don't know how you could resolve this but if you email up Darcy at mudjug and buy directly through him he will send it directly to you and I doubt you will have to pay the taxes on it.

                Good luck brother.

I've been getting 5 can orders regularly. Haven't been busted yet and most of my packages have had Contents checked by customs stamps on them. Keep your orders small.5 cans or less. Cheers Phil.
