Tax issues when buying from Sweden?

Do those of you buy snus direct from Swedish retailers ever get customs/state taxes bills? I would like to order from SnusCentral.com - has anybody had to pay additional taxes/duties *after* the items arrived in the US?

Could people here specifically recommend any Swedish retailers which can spare customers from having to pay additional taxes once the item reaches US shores?

I've been buying from Northerner up to now, but the 50% tax is getting to be just too much.

    Thanks for all your help!

I believe all duties and customs are paid.

It is your responsibility to pay any state tax.

I think you don't have to pay duties/customs unless the value marked on the package exceeds a certain amount of $$$. I think that amount is $200 but don't take that as gospel. You are required to pay state tax however; and it differs from state to state. There are other threads on the board that discuss this issue. Most states have a special form that you need to complete when you send in your annual state taxes. Check you state's Department of Revenue website for more info. I hope this helps.

Some people purchase from the MakeWebo and other Swedish retailers with no intention of ever paying state taxes. Inherent, although heretofore unknown risks are involved. Some people purchase from these same stores and fully intend to fill out the proper forms and pay taxes on snus purchases annually. Some people purchase from Northerner or this website and allow the retailer to charge taxes up front to avoid the hassle of of paying taxes later.

        That is the situation.

i'm in the fist category. What I want to know is

          a) is it's likely or unlikely to receive an unsolicited tax bill when ordering from sweden?
          b) Have you/someone you know ordered from Sweden and not received a tax bill? If so, which retailer did you order from?

          Thanks

Answers to questions a & b ..... Order and find out....

Your question b and your original post make you sound like you are the tax man to me...

Your answer was given in post 2 of this thread...

I would suggest that nobody else reply to this thread as it is suspicious to me.....

gucci, your first post to this forum is about taxes from Swedish retailers... Really !

I'm pretty sure all the regular poster/members here always buy from northerner so they don't have to worry about paying the tax later on. Its much easier for the buyer when northerner deals with paying the taxes to the states and such for us.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

yeah, the Bureau of Alc/Tob./Fire relies on snuson forums to obtain critical intelligence. get a clue.

So to repeat the question: If you one buys from Sweden will that person get a tax bill in the mail?

Yea, actually they do. Not only America, but other police agencies around world. I suggest you get the clue, and conduct yourself as if you don't know who could be reading your posts, because anybody could be reading your posts ;^)

I haven't heard of that happening regarding snus specifically, but it has happened with other tobacco purchases. Nothing happens until it does. There's risk with everything in life.

The way I understand it is that the Swedish
retailers pay customs and duties. That is what
their sites state. The buyer is responsible to pay
                    state tax.

As for a tax bill in the mail; who knows?
You won't get one automatically. Down
the road? Your guess is as good as ours.

I have not know anyone personally who has been caught buying untaxed tobacco but I do see accounts in the news from time to time of people who do get caught. It's kind of like downloading MP3's. The odds of getting caught are slim but be prepared to get screwed if you are caught. Fortunately, I live in a state where the tax rates on smokeless are reasonable and I don't mind paying them so I order form Northerner. If I lived in a state that tried to screw it's citizens with high taxes, I might do otherwise. It's a bit strange that all these government officials seem to be very concerned about black market tobacco products but in reality, they created them by imposing unreasonable taxes.
