    How does taxing work?

Hello I have never ordered snus online until a few days ago. My order shipped out already, but all I payed was the initial snus cost and shipping to the online store (Northerner). It shipped as Swedish post, does this come to my doorstep or mailbox? Also my main question is how and when will I be paying the tobacco tax? Coming from Sweden to me in Canada, Canadians get killed with tax so what can I expect? Also if it matters, I only ordered 1 can. Confused noob...

    Thanks!

Omg the product I ordered from their Swedish warehouse is also available on their USA warehouse. Lol now it's going to take even longer.

1 can may slip by customs, but if they catch it you will have to pay the duty on it and pick it up at the post office or wherever you would normally pick up a parcel. The duty on a can works out to ~5 - 6 bucks. BUT, the kicker is you will probably get nailed an $8.50 "handling fee" as well. So, on top of what you paid for that can + shipping + customs it could possibly end up being a $20 can of snus! You are further ahead to order by the roll to take advantage of the cheaper cost/can from the vendor and to help offset the b@llsh*t "handling fee" imposed by customs on a package. Most vendors split your order up into packages of 5 when they ship to you.

Thanks for the reply! I'm from Ontario too. Btw, so what's the total price you would pay for a roll of your favorite snus after all these taxes?

Also I was curious if that non tobacco snus like Onico gets taxed too? I tried it from a friend once and wouldn't mind ordering a couple if it is not counted as tobacco.

Actually, I should change the duty per can I stated above to $3-4 instead of $5-6. My mind goes a bit feeble in the evening sometimes. So, depending on what you've paid for the roll + shipping, you can tack on an additional $50-60 per roll. Occasionally a package slips by customs but it seems more often than not customs is applied.

I've never ordered any non-tobacco stuff so I am not sure what would happen as far as duty. If you're into that I understand you can find herbal dip and stuff like that, and probably in stores here. So I would just buy that if you can find it.

Likewise, if you are just an occasional or light snus user, General snus can be found in stores here and apparently Swedish Match are making a push to get it into even more stores. (more information here: http://chadizzy1.blogspot.com/2012/0...2012-snus.html ) Might be less of a hassle for you to get it locally.

The only non tobacco snuff here is made to mimic stuff like Skoal peach, cherry, etc... *gags*

And I never new General came here, thanks for telling me! Looks like Sneeky Dee's bar in Toronto carries it, I'll call them tomorrow. Taking a 30 minute drive down town every once in a while would beat ordering online. Monday is family day, I will go then! Lol

Well glad you can find it nearby. Someone in Moosonee might have a problem, but there should be lots of places in the GTA for you. On that note, I would also look for a couple more places that sell it. It is not widely known that it can be purchased in stores here, so freshness might be a problem. You may want an alternate source if Sneeky Dee's has stale stuff. Last month I was in a place that was trying to sell the General mint ("Fresh Taste" I believe they call it here) that had a best before date of September 2011!

Another thing, my pack shipped with Swedish post not UPS, can I still track it?

No, there is no tracking for Swedish post that I am aware of.

I got a single can in the mail today that slipped past customs I wonder if that will happen every time with a single order... And the package said snus right on it.

Dealing with Canada Customs is a notorious crapshoot, but this might help you get an idea of what you would owe on a package:
