Kungstobak snus store in Stockholm, my trip to Stockholm

    Hi guys,

I am back from Stockholm. Guess what? There is very little space in our fridge left for food as a result now.

As I said I would, I went to that little tobacco/snus store in downtown Stockholm: KUNGSTOBAK at 68 Kungsgatan street. The store is a walking distance away from the railways station and the old town. Bus stop for eastbound ferries is located in front of the store which is convenient.

The store has 2 refrigerators, one for rolls and one for single cans. I was rather surprised to find both fridges in the corner of a tiny corridor behind the counter. It is therefore impossible to make out what brands they have. It was only after the staff realized they are about to make a very good deal that they let me behind the counter to see the fridges.

I never saw such a vast collection of Thunder and Offroad cans before! At Kungstobak they seem to have every imaginable Thunder and Offroad snus. However that was not what I was looking for...

Unfortunately the store had run out of most original portions which made me hesitate and think if i really wanted to have all of my portion snus as whites or should I perhaps get everything as loose instead. I did settle for whites in the end.
They were also out of Supportersnus and Gringo which was a pity as these had been ordered by friends and I hoped I would try both brands myself. They were down to 4 cans of Odens Extreme portions and from Jacobsson’s none was in stock. I was told more snus was coming in later in the day but my time was running out and I had no choice better than to buy what was available.

    I bought:
3 rolls of Skruf Stark Loose
    2 rolls of Granit loose
    1 roll of Ettan loose
    1 roll of Grov loose
1 roll of Skruf Cranberry White Portions
1 roll of Kaliber white portions
1 roll of Skruf Stark portions

I would describe Kungstobak as being inexpensive, it is definately less expensive than snus2.se but not as cheap as tea-livs.se in Malmo.

    Prices I paid:

    Skruf stark loose: 450 SEK
    Ettan/Grov loose 437 SEK
    Granit Loose 347 SEK
    Kaliber 195 SEK
    Skruf portions 360 SEK

    which is reasonable.

All snus that I got has good Best Before dates ending December 2012 – January 2013.

It must be noted that the shop is immigrant run and the staff speaks hardly any English, I had to use all my Swedish language skills and was surprised myself at how well I can still speak the lingo.

While literally digging deep in the snus fridge I could hear the shopkeeper conversing with clients. Most people were asking for inexpensive brands like Knox or Kaliber and most were buying rolls.

I am a happy snuser for a while now!

Thanks guys, I am very happy I bought these. I also have some GN and V2 snus left from previous orders, so I think I am covered for a year or so. I will be rationing anyway. As Chainsnuser said in another thread "we are rationing consumer goods like our grandfathers did in the war"... that's exactly what I feel about it....... but I don't regret making this trip. Stockholm is a nice place to visit, especially by boat. There are 30 000 islands that make up the outer and inner archipelago, its damn beautiful.

Nice post Jan. Were there not other tobacco shops within walking distance? It seems strange that this one store was your only choice. From where I sit here in Seattle, I can think of at least 7 stores within walking distance with a nice selection of tobacco products, including several snus varieties in 4 of those stores. I'm just curious why you couldn't get the selection you wanted at a different shop. I obviously don't know how snus is sold over there, so someone please enlighten me.

Roo: Snus is sold everywhere in Sweden, in every small convenience store, in every supermarket, at gas stations, in bars but its mostly a small selection of popular brands like Catch, Ettan, General, mostly portions. I did not intend to buy any SM snus at all and the shop I went to is known to have an excellent selection. It is therefore very popular among finnish visitors to Stockholm. I just happened to be there at a bad time on a bad day and we only had 6 hours of time. We joined a guided tour of the city that lasted 2 hours and then we got carried away shopping for Swedish fashion.

So, what, you just come strolling back through customs with a icy stare? I came though once with 60 pounds of hard frozen Tuna and they could care less.

Except for Finland with their notorious Snus Police which is always on duty when ferries come in from Sweden. The Finns hate snus and Sweden so much that they spend millions every year patrolling the harbors and check points on land and they don't let anyone in with more than 3 rolls of snus per person.
Friends from Finland are telling me horror stories...

That really is over the top! The odd thing is Finns love snus and (correct me if I am wrong) it has been a part of their culture for centuries too like most Scandinavian countries! El loco

LOL. I know that if you go on a cruise you can take your chances and buy more than three rolls of snus here in Finland. But there's allways a risk of getting caught. Many people buy six to twelve rolls usually and don't give a f*ck about the customs laws.

Love it! I used to be like that when bringing cigarettes back, always bought 10,000 in duty free and had them in hand luggage, laptop bags can hide an array of sins! lol
