New to snus - buying in UK and other questions... please!

Hi all, well I am new to snusing but have taken it up, or tried to as I have smoked for twnety years and really want to give up... now I have, I have been smoke free for two weeks thanks to snus. But, I have several questions I'd like to ask please:

    1. It seems at the moment that I can only buy snus from northener.com, nobody else ships within the EU - the question is how come they are still allowed to do so? Also it is no secret... everybody on google talks about them...

    2. Though they sell in UE it seems they only do brands that most people describe as the cheaper ones, phantom, oden etc... why do they not stock the supposedly better swedish brands like general?

    3. Finally BUT VERY IMPORTANTLY - it seems like the ones they sell are Danish and not Swedish - is there any HEALTH difference between taking swedish and dansih snus?? in other words is Danish snus as safe as Swedish?

Thank you so much for answering my questions!!

    Welcome to snuson

    1. Only Northerner in terms f webshps ship to the EU as they only sell snus not produced in sweden to the EU so don't break the stupid EU law.

    2. Swedish snus now cannot be sold from sweden to the EU due to a recent court case, Oden's (which is swedish) which is by no means a cheap brand, its cheap in cost because GN is a legend and loves us so won't rip us off Also V2 snus may be cheap in price but not in quality they make some good snus (Phantom being my fav).

    3. Yes its just as safe, its made exactly the same and to the same standards, as its also sold in Sweden it has to be made to the same standards, its just not produced there.

        Welcome to the site mate
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Welcome to the forum Matthew. Don't worry about the Danish products, they're just as good. Have a look at Odens Extreme.....it's a tad good (ps. I'm not affiliated, I just love the tobacco and the company owner)

If selling snus to EU from Denmark is legal, is it also legal to sell Danish snus in tobacco shops in EU countries? I haven't found Danish snus in my country but it would be a good idea and a good business to import and sell snus (if it is legal).

I've almost completely lost track with where the laws stand in the EU ... none of it makes any sense ... I just try and get snus from wherever I can these days.

It would be lovely to just know what the laws are - full stop.

Then I could ignore them with a greater level of satisfaction!

Brilliant, didn't want to be 'saving my life with snus' rather than smoking only to find Dansih snus is bad for you!! lol I'm finding giving up smoking easy-peasy using three or four of these a day and a little nasal snuff, why the hell doesn't the givernment give this stuff out instead of nicotine patches and dangerous tablets!!! Thanks for being so welcoming!

Exactly Matthew. Those tablets are pretty horrendous. Nicotine patches don't work - unless you want to quit altogether. But for sustaining a nicotine habit in a relatively harmless way, snus is unbeatable.

P.S Could you got to your settings and put UK on there. It just helps all the UK members identify and communicate easier as times are difficult in the snus world. A very warm welcome once again.

Oh, and who is 'GN'? Also how come northener can sell Odens then if it is Swedish?

Finally - based on what you can get on the northener site, what are the top two or three types of portion snus I should try?

Oh, and what is the real difference between normal and white portions??

                    Cheers.

White portions are just drier. There's hardly any 'drip' i.e juices.

Top portions are entirely a matter of taste. Personally I like Odens Extreme because I like a natural tobacco taste and I like my snus strong. Other people will have completely different tastes.

We're being monitored by anti-tobacco monkeys so it's best to err on the side of caution when speaking about the why's and wherefores of what's available.

Yes - sorry for my previous reply which is more moaning and not very helpful!

Basically what Extreme said - snus is all massively better for you than smoking (although it's not as good for you as giving up completely ... but we all know that right?).

The main difference between portion and white portion is that the normal portions are sprayed with an extra dose of the flavouring juice before they are canned - the white ones miss out this step (I'm sure I read that somewhere) - the result is that the whites are dryer, take a little longer for the taste & nicotine to kick in, but tend to drip less and the taste can last longer.

GN is a guy who comes and talks on here, but less so in recent months - he works for/owns GN tobacco who make the Odens lines of snus and Old Ving. There's probably a link between him talking less on here and the anti-tobacco lot that Extreme is talking about!

                          Cheers

Hmm, depends on your point of view squeezy, if you take a holistic view of health and include mental health. Giving up completely (I don't mean 'the quit' - I mean when stable off the tobacco habit) means that my existence is pretty miserable. My OCD is really bad, as is my paranoia, and my memory is shot to hell. Just saying that snus is better for me than not having it, if you take into account the brain and my diagnosis.

Sorry to be a pedant, I'm quite passionate about this :-)

Sorry - you're quite right Vulpes.

In some cases a way of taking tobacco medicinally can be better than not taking it. And NRT does not cover that as it only provides nicotine and not the other beneficial alkaloids present in tobacco.

My aside was a flippant reference directed at those watching us. To show we think about these things responsibly - although I didn't think too hard before typing that I agree.

                              Cheers
