    Understanding Northener's pricing...

Hi, I have made a couple of orders with this company, and all has been well. But now the pricing seems weird...

For example you put a 1.90 snus in the basket, but at checkout it says 2.45?

Then, finally with 20 pounds worth of snus in the basket (all more expensive than the original page) it says at the bottom 28 pounds?

Then it says you have nothing in the basket anywa?!!

God. Just into snus and already the ONE place I can find to buy it has gone weird!

Is there another legal site like Northener?

Ah... it seems like they add tax twice - once for each product, and then again at the end... is this correct???

Oh their system is totally broken right now. I wouldn't try to order anything until they sort it out. Take a look at the other threads here about it.

If you're ordering the few remaining Danish brands of snus that Northerner are still sending from Europe - it is subject to 1) tobacco tax local to Sweden and then 2) VAT has to be applied. This has always been the case with Northerners pricing. It would account for the 2 price hikes you describe. If they don't make it clear that's what's happening then that's bad form on their part.

If you order from the US taxes are not applicable, but you face import duty amounting to the same on arrival in the UK.

        Good Luck

Slightly wrong, you would only pay UK VAT on the order if its gets stopped, as oral tobacco is not subject to tobacco tax unlike smoked tobacco here, same with snuff, customs can only charge VAT on anything valued at over £20 coming from outside the EU, that is the LAW, nothing illegal, you just may have to pay a few extra £'s and a "customs handling fee" of about £6.00 or so for them opening the parcel, you will still get the package as you are not breaking ANY LAWS.

That god for the EU, so intra-union purchasing is straightforward, and easy to understand :^D

One of the EU's benefits is the free movement of goods between member states, they don't like interference which is why you could theoretically send anything from an EU country to another Eu country with little or no issues. Strictly that only applies to the western, southern and northern european countries and they are still wary of the eastern ones, like the new kid at school! lol

Also if the tax has been paid in the country of origin they cannot charge you again on entry into another member state.

Correct. The only problem ordering from the US is the time taken to deliver. Customs are not a problem. Snusify reckoned 2 out of every 10 packages get stopped. Those are good odds, and when you do get stopped you pay VAT and a small charge. No biggie.

Oh man, every time I order something from overseas it's a headache. I ordered a cell phone from Canada a while back. Customs fingered my package, taped the box back up with some official looking tape, and handed me a fat bill for $34. And it was marked as a gift. I'd hate to see the fees if it hadn't been.

Though oddly enough, when I order things from DealExtreme (Hong Kong) and it's shipped by Hong Kong Post, I never pay any customs fees. I don't even think I've had a package from there end up in customs.

Touch wood, not had anything collared yet, only thing was some milk duds and butter fingers a friend sent, wasn't charged anything other than the "customs handling fee".

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
