I would bring a bunch of empty tins to Gellivare and I would also visit Mr. GN to buy old Ving and lime los. My perfect shopping trip.
That's a beautiful idea - I looked in to it when I was due over in Sweden. Unfortunately the town where Gellivare is made (Gällivare!) is 945 miles from Göteborg and there isn't a motorway for most of it. Google maps reckons 17 hours - I think that's being optimistic!
It would make a great pilgrimage/road trip in it's own right though!

Sometimes wrong and sometimes right .... but ALWAYS certain!!!
Hi all, long time lurker - first time register and poster!
Long time user of the venerable product in portion format from the UK (picked it up originally when living in Oslo a few years ago and experiencing their harsh winters).
I am planning a trip in the New Year over to Sweden (via low cost airline Ryanair) to do a day trip/overnighter to stock up on a few rolls (all for personal use, of course!)
However I need some advice:
Where is the best place in Göteborg or Stockholm (looking at some kind of Snus Supermarket type place) to buy good quality cheap stuff (very partial to Skruf, Rapé, Granit, Odens, Mocha) - and how much can I expect to pay for a roll of 10 cans in recommended places.
Secondly - I've seen talk of a "Snus Museum" recently opened by SM in Stockholm - is it worth a visit (and if so - how much would stuff be to purchase there)
Finally - am I right in thinking that if checked at the airport coming back in - as long as I have receipt from the store showing I have paid the tax at point of sale - I won't be delayed by customs?
Have a good Christmas and New Year all - hopefully I can get some good advice!
Gothenburg's a great city, but there's not much in the way of snus that you can't find in Stockholm. AFAIK the airport there doesn't sell any snus. (If they did, I never saw it.)
A good day trip could be planned just going to the Toback Museum in Stockholm. The only snus you'll find there are limited edition (expensive) Kardus versions of GR, Grov and Ettan. It's really cool though because the snus is all made by hand right there at the museum. There's a restaurant you can eat at, then you can pretty much ride back to the airport and go home.
The best place in Sweden to buy snus is the STOCKHOLM ARMADA AIRPORT SNUSIDOR. Compared to what you would pay in any shop in Stockholm, the duty free airport snus is the cheapest in the country and they pretty much carry everything. In fact, if you're really only going there to buy snus, book a round trip to the airport back to the UK. I forget what the exact cost of rolls are (they only sell rolls, no single cans) but it seemed like a 10 pack of Lucky Strike was around $40 USD. Hope this helps.

Of course if you're flying to the UK ... you don't get any duty-free allowance! Another sting in the tail of the EU for us and snus.
When I took a transfer via Arlanda last summer I grabbed a roll of General Extra Strong portions and that cost me about 450-500SEK! That's about £5 per can!
It's not cheap ... but beggars can't be choosers as they say.

Its not duty free is you are travelling to or from an EU country, you just pay the price of the host country, which is a kick in the bollocks!
From what I understood, there are ways to get around from paying Duty taxes on less than twenty rolls portion/ten rolls lös if you're going back within the EU, but things may have changed since last I traveled. Or maybe the guys I was traveling with just got lucky. I know they didn't pay a dime on over 100 cans apiece going back through their respective countries.
Maybe there's a way to not declare it? I would probably rather try to sneak it in if I could, but that's because I'm a shifty American and we always try to do our patriotic best to avoid paying taxes whenever possible.

You can bring back as much as you like as long as you have paid the duty in the country you buy it in, won't need to pay any on entry back int he UK (isn;t any or oral and nasal tobacco anyway so not an issue) but you cannot purchase the duty free stock in the suty free shop if you are travelling within the EU, when they scan your ticket they won't let you purchase anything duty free, has to be duty paid.

Yes this is how it was for me a few or so months ago.
It sucks in a way as you don't save much, unless you are in a cheap country etc but it has its advantages as you aren't restricted in what you can bring back.
The only time I normally got to purchase stuff in person was going in and out of Norway at airports - where TaxFree could be done. But then you were restricted to 10 cans each way (at the cost of 170kr)
Just on way to get my flight now - should be in Göteborg for breakfast!

Ah yes ... Norway - very wisely not part of the EU!
Anyway - good haul! I take it the shop was Snus2? Those prices are way better than the ones I saw with duty on them at Arlanda airport.
Cheers
