    Australia and our insane taxes

    Hey guys,

After waiting over a month for an order from Northerner, I have only today received a tax notice for what I can as 5 tins out of the 10 I ordered. $84.06 is the total amount they have charged in tax and I am absolutely shocked and disgusted at how ridiculous the cost is. I am thinking I will receive another notice for the other 5 tins for the same amount taking the total order to about $21 a tin. This is the first time after a few orders from Northerner that I have received a tax notice. And, I also have another 3 packages from another order to come. Not going to be happy if they keep snagging my tobacco
Has anyone else from Australia received tax notices lately due to tobacco orders? Or at all for that matter?

    Cheers

You ought to go on line and check the tax rate.............just to make sure you were not over taxed

    Regardless..........that is plain crazy
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Seems to be the right amount, unfortunately. There is a full breakdown on the invoice. The tax is $443.11/Kg of tobacco and 5 tins equates to 0.170kg plus some insurance thing which is $2 as well as GST which is 10%. The cost of tobacco has gone up insanely in this country since the 90's.

Lucky I will be in the states for the whole summer!

In that case you might consider buying Odens loose XXX with 21 or so mg of nicotine per one gram of tobacco. The "tax per 1 day of use" would be almost 3 times lower for you. Of course, it requires you to make 3 times smaller portions/prillas from the XXX loose. I think native English speakers call it bang for the buck.

yes it happened to me also the other day for the first time and i've been ordering for 2 years now. i think i'll just stick to ordering 3 cans of dip from northerner at a time, they usually let it through without hassel and incase the articles are stopped by customs at least the cost won't be so much. its a shame that northerner is pretty much the only place i can get 'dip'. this time customs wanted to charge me over $75+ on a $15 order.... so i just let them keep it as it's really not worth it to me.

I get the feeling that with the increase in drugs being sent via mail (because of the likes of the silk road, etc), packages are being checked more thoroughly. This was my first charge in the couple of years I have ordered from them as well, and have had multiple packages of 5 tins come through. Really sucks!

Edit: Made my tax payment last Wednesday, still haven't received the package. Not very happy at all!

So strange, I lived in New Zealand for a year and ordered many times from Northerner without any taxes! we need a trustworthy company that marks their product as XMAS presents or something. Same thing is happening in Canada, when I was in BC (very rich part of Canada) they would charge insane rates like 90$ for a roll, nothing worse than having to send your order back to the manufacturer

Tobacco seeds are quite reasonably priced.
