What's up with Northerner and UPS customs/brokerage fees?

I've been ordering snus for a long time from Northerner; I live in the US.

I've ordered both before and after the change to their only having a Swedish warehouse.

I've always had only one shipping option, UPS Express Saver, available to me at checkout. Usually costs around $35+.

On my most recent order, about 10 days after receiving it, I got a letter in the mail from UPS saying I owed UPS an additional $15+ in customs fees, most of which were "brokerage" related. Strangely and incidentally, under items listed, 10 cans of Thunder snus were listed, even though my entire order contained about 25-30 cans total (including other brands).

I emailed Northerner and they responded with some crap about how shipping everything from Sweden makes things cheaper for us now, but that tax/duties have to be paid on the receiving end. Yet I paid the same shipping cost to them as I always have.

Theres an old thread about this (http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...om-Northerner&) but its two years old so I didn't want to revive it.

Anyone know what's up with this? Is this some random stuff or did they make an error or what?

Who else do you recommend that's US-based or at least better run?

I tried buying from the other top Swedish snus site, I forget the name now, but their stupid age verification would never work (I'm old enough as shit but recently moved so none of them work, it sucks), so I'm stuck with Northerner and their messed up 55$+ shipping with these UPS customs fees etc.

Thanks, but unfortunately, hardly much of a swedish snus selection there; mostly American dip. General; that's about it. No Thunder, Nick & Johnny, Old Ving, etc.

Surely there's some better way to order snus to the US (whether from the US or Sweden) without paying ridiculous shipping fees + brokerage fees to boot. I'm done with Northerner; selection is good but shipping and customer service sucks.

Have you tried buysnus? In my 3 orders with northerner they averaged 2 weeks for delivery. Buysnus averages about 3 days.
Ordering my own snus again is kind of a pain because my current UPS man has a nasty habit or either dropping stuff at my door at an apartment complex or asking for my id and then asking me to confirm information on it like my entire license number. The first time it happened I had renewed my license the same day so i looked exactly the same and was wearing the same clothes and he still wanted to berate me about it.

Have you tried updating your license?
I have my old adress still on file for my grandfather's on my license and it still verifies me perfectly.
Do you maybe need to put in a different billing address than the mailing address?
I'm not exactly sure where it verifies that I don't even remember doing age verification on my last order.

I know Northerner hasn't been up to par lately, but my most recent order has gone good so far. It was shipped same day, and is due to be delivered today, about 3 days later. So far, so good. I'll update if I have some sort of customs bill later today.

I don't know why anyone would use northerner over buysnus. Unless you REALLY need some lime los or odens extreme kola which i havent tried but all the other cola's ive had have tasted like battery acid. Or i guess the northerner boost purified portions. It even lets you know what you can add before upping the shipping price. I threw in a bag of some kind of turkish pepper swedish candy last time.

Also how is shipping from sweden cheaper than shipping from the U.S? A lot of online retialers (not of snus) will ship you shit for free if it hits a certain dollar amount in the U.S because shipping within the U.S is cheap. They ship from EU because it is cheaper for their EU customers that can legally get snus. It's fine if thats a bigger and more profitable marketplace but don't charge me more and tell me you're saving me money.
