Something strange in my UPS tracking, anyone ever seen this?

I have an order coming from Snus Central (my second) and I don't understand what it is saying in the tracking that is holding it up. Anyone else ever see this and know what it means?

A valid ID # (tax, personal, deferment) required for clearance is missing. We're working to obtain this information. / Brokerage released the package. It will be processed through a clearing agency before final release to UPS.

I don't think most people bother to watch the tracking unless the package is way late. In 10 or so years ordering snus online I've never had a problem getting my package....only a couple of times has it been late but it always showed up. You could always contact ups to find out what it really means.

Guess I am different, I have an app on my phone that tracks packages, and I get an alert every time it is scanned. :excitement: So I see every step of the way on everything I order. I have never ordered tobacco before I started with snus, this is my second order, and both were delayed in Louisville, KY, but tracking was different on the first one. I was just wondering if someone had had the same tracking message, and how long it was delayed before delivery. I only liked 5 cans out of my first order (17 different ones), and I don't want to run out before I get this order, I'll be pushing it to last another week with my current stock.

Well I finally got my order last night, 13 days from order to delivery. It was worth the wait as I also got 10 free cans of assorted snus.

Five+ years of snusing and, as I recall, four days is the longest I've waited. I have had odd notes on my UPS My Choice, but I ignored.....

We can all see the progress of our order as its shipped, just go to ups tracking. There are sometimes short delays in customs clearance and such but usually not
and the package is still delivered within 3 to 5 days.

Yeah if you have an app that notifies you of every scan along the shipping route then yes you will get a lot of useless notifications. Very few shipments take longer than the 3 to 5 days.

Are you seeing your order being delayed? Are you seeing something in your tracking about clearing/brokerage? Hopefully this will help explain it.

Rules - a little background

- Due to the PACT Act, all snus orders shipped into the US have to be shipped via a carrier that verifies age. This is why everyone uses UPS and why shipping costs a little extra.
- Packages are required to be signed by someone who is 21 or older, and their ID has to be verified upon delivery.
- FDA rules also mandate that labels be placed on the top and side of the can, and they have to be a certain size.
- Packages have to be declared as containing tobacco. They can't be declared as "Swedish goods".

Now, why is my order being delayed?

As with everything, people will always try to find a way around the rules. Not everyone shipping to the US was following FDA rules. There was a store that was offering cheaper shipping and packages weren't being properly declared, they weren’t being shipped signature required or age verified, and the labels they were placing on the can weren’t the correct size as mandated by the FDA. This went on for a while until eventually it was caught. Now, UPS is having to “hand check” packages. Meaning they personally are verifying some packages to ensure they are in compliance with PACT Act/FDA rules. So, “yay cheaper shipping!” led to longer delays. We tried to warn people that this would happen, so here we are.

Will this get any better?

We can’t say at this time. It may get worse. This may actually lead to an increase in wait and an increase in shipping costs due to these longer delays due to brokerage/clearing/hand checking. But this has become the new normal and is something that is happening to more and more people.

I ordered from snuscentral.com last night and they have a warming in the order form - basically states that they are on the ball with their usual quick shipping (my order registerd with UPS quickly) but UPS and FDA are over loaded so it my be slow.... Best to order early and often.

That was my first order, took 13 days, my next 2 from snus central took 6 days & 3 days, my 4th order from snus24 took 2 days. The first 2 went through KY, the second 2 went through PA, I hope all my future orders go through PA, lots quicker.
