Increased tobacco tax after new years!

The Swedish government will increase the tax on snus with 100% after new years.
Has anyone else heard about this?
Got the info from http://www.snusbutiken.se/. Should we all stock up now?

Yeah I heard something similar on snusforum.com. It seems that stocking up could be a good idea - if it turns out not to be true, the snus will keep in the freezer anyway.

It's increasing from 123 Kr per kilo to 246 Kr. On a 50g tin of loose snus, that 6.15Kr going up to 12.3Kr. That's 91 US cents, 46 pence, or 68 eurocents extra per tin. Not nothing, but not a killer either. On a tin of portions the increase will be half that much (only 25g per tin).

I saw that brought up in the Snus Forum at SMPOST,
        http://www.gprcc.net/smpost/modules/...=4200&forum=27

I've been wondering if that will only affect EU Residential Citizens, or will effect us in other Countries as well, e.g. the U.S..

I think only EU people will feel this
Folks outside the EU don't pay swedish taxes. Only your own national taxes.

I live in the UK and up to now I've only been paying the EU Tobacco tax @ 25% when I've ordered my Snus. I hope it doesn't mean I'll have to start paying the current UK Tobacco tax of 80%

I don't know the exact extent of the UK's membership of the EU (it's not 100% since consequent gov'ts opted out of plenty of EU rules and regulations) but normally EU-countries pay all taxes as if they were inside Sweden.

If I order an MP3 player out of e.g. Spain and they have 15% VAT I pay the 15%. Not the 19% in Holland. (although S&H might scrap any price advantage)
Same goes for extra tariffs on alcohol and tobacco which are added on top of VAT.
(atleast this is how I've understood things to work)
