      As I said above, I contacted Vikingsnus, but they replied they wouldn't send anything to Australia - they'd tried in the past but no shipment had made it through customs. Maybe I'll ask my relatives to receive a parcel for me in Russia and then pick it up there when I go home for a visit - I'm eager to try their stuff.

I finally got a reply from them, but they didnt tell me when they would be able to ship orders again. I tried responding to him and asking again, but got nothing back. If anyone knows how to order a DIY kit from them or anywhere else plz let me know. Thanks

          Here's a couple more sites for you:

          http://www.pgw.se/index.php?cPath=59_171

          http://www.cuthof.se/public/products.asp?p=6&q=1

          I don't have any experience with either one of them.

            thanks for the sites. I have been talking to the guys at Tilbudet and I think I am going to order their cut n rolls kit with 3 aromas for $50 USD shipped. I asked about the kit with the oven but he said its to fragile to ship to the USA. Im just waiting to hear back so I can figure out how to make a payment to them. Ill try to let you guys know how it goes.

            Also if any of you are wondering about ordering from Tilbudet, I recommend them. I have ordered from them before and they are great. Just need to email them if you only speak english so you can place an order. If you have any questions just ask

              By the way I didn't ferment my homemade snus properly - I don't have an oven, so I just left it in the sun for a couple of days. The taste is good, I like it more and more and will certainly prepare a new batch this week. But I'm afraid it may contain bacteria, because normal tobacco is not intended for ingestion.. although I have not noticed any harmful effects so far, like an upset stomach or something 8)

                I was under the impression that fermenting or curing is neither needed nor recommended for snus. In other words, snus is pasteurized instead of cured or fermented, which is precisely why the TSNA levels are so low;

                Fermenting/curing = high TSNA levels

                Pasteurizing = low TSNA levels.

                I already have some Virginia Gold and Black Sea Samsun Turkish I am sprouting, but also have 4 other Turkish varieties (Bafra, Basma, Bursa & Izmir), as well as a low nicotine Brown and Williamson variety on the way via snail mail. I want to get some low nic Maryland as well.

                Does anyone know if curing/fermented is needed or recommended for snus?

                Edit: Here is what Wikipedia says:

                "Snus is also unique in that it is steam-cured rather than fire-cured, is not fermented '

                "Swedish snus is made from air dried tobacco from various parts of the world. In earlier times tobacco for making snus used to be laid out for drying"

                Tobacco for snus need not be cured or fermented.

                  Maybe I got the terminology wrong.

                  What I mean is that I was unable to keep the tobacco mixture in a warm (50-90 C) place for 2-5 days as recommended by DIY snus kit manufacturers. I believe it's properly called pasteurization, but I thought that fermentation was the same thing.

                        easy bake oven snus pasteurizer

                        I think it would be fairly simple to make a pasteurizer for homemade snus, similar to an "easy-bake oven", only with a smaller bulb or temp control of some type. It is my understanding that it needs 2-3 days at 50-90C, the easy bake gets up to about 350-375 with a 100w incandescent bulb, perhaps a 40 or 60w will do the trick(?) Would be a fun little project for someone with a little sheet metal and a supply of bulbs

                          Probably I should contact the Aussie customs directly to find out... I wonder if someone hasn't tried this method already.
                          Hi guys

                          If the custom don´t take it, it will coust you around 81.94 us$ including snus and the shipping , if it works you will have 1,5 kilo snus very cheap.

                            That's just it Australian customs is notorius for intercepting packages and applying their tobacco taxes.

                            I don't know who's worse Canada or Australia.

                              I looked at your Snus usage I really don't understand how a Snus can only lasts one day.

                              Even when using Extra Sterk I find a hand baked portion carries on delivering nicotine for at least to hours. With portion snus I use 2 portions at a time and still get 2 hours out of it.

                              So to get through 1 can of 24 portions in a day I would have to be awake 24 hours.

                              a Can of extra sterk lös lasts me 4 days. a Can of portion snus last 2 days.

                                Good ol Champion Ruby, our best rollie tobacco!
                                Looks like you did a pretty good job on your snus! Have to try it one day.

                                Seeing as this is a topic on Aussies saving money by avoiding customs...I've got 2 can of Thunder which buysnus sent free with my last 2 orders. I really dont like the stuff that much, usually would only use it if i ran low on other snus,
                                so if anyone in Australia wants it, PM me and i'll send it to you. First in can have it. (i'll "borrow" a postage stamp from work to save myself postage costs haha)
