    Swedish Match Snus in U.S.

I haven't seen anything about this posted here, but I apologize if this is a repeat. Swedish Match is launching snus in 100 retail stores in the States this month. Here's an excerpt from the news part of their page (http://www.swedishsnus.com/smna_us/)

"(10 Jan 2007) In February, Swedish Match in partnership with General Cigar, a subsidiary of Swedish Match AB, will roll out Swedish snus in 100 US retail tobacconists in several major metro areas in California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia."

It's fairly limited to a few General products, but it's still good news for those of us who live in those states. There's a store locator there, too, to see where those stores are.

Ahh... I see. Could that be the reason for General brand facelift too?!

Pipe World here in Austin said they carry General Snus. Forgot to ask about pricing, but I'm sure I'll get over there pretty soon to find out.
If the price is not outrageous it should be very convenient. Only wish they carried Nick & Johnny as well.

Maybe I can convince my local liquor/cigar store to carry it.

I'm surprised it's taken them this long. I thought swedish match u.s.a would have started producing snus.

Maybe they(swedish match) are waiting for the U.S. companies to test the waters and waste money to buffer the public for snus. Then they will launch an all out snus war!

              ...that would be very nice.

For what it's worth I ordered from http://seriouscigars.com the other day. Bought four cans of snus to try them out. I normally order from http://www.swedishsnus.com but I just wanted to try buying some from seriouscigars and see how it went.

The price is higher $39.95 a roll or $4.49 a can and shipping while not too bad (about $6 i think) still makes a roll cost aprox $46, take maybe 3 days to arrive. I can get it for $35 UPS shipping inc at http://www.swedishsnus.com but at http://buysnus.com the same roll would cost me $43.65 and it would take about ten days for it to arrive via postal mail. So if my only choices was buying from seriouscigar and buysnus I would pay the extra $3, get it from seriouscigar and have my snus 7-8 days quicker.

I ordered two cans of general loose and two cans of general wintergreen. They sent me two cans of general loose and two cans of general white. I emailed them about it, they replied back within 24 hours, very nice about it. Told me to keep the two "wrong" cans and I received the two replacement cans of wintergreen in about two days.

Anyone who has tried the general wintergreen would know how easy it is to mix up wintergreen and white. The look of the labels are close to the same it's very hard to tell the difference. So overall, I would say if you live close enough to go to serious cigars store it would be a good place to buy snus. If you must order via web then expect to pay more than some online shops. But hey, if we americans don't support shops here we will always be buying from the web.

For what it's worth..... I wrote Swedish Match and asked them if they planned to sell snus in the state I live in (Alabama). Below is their reply......

Thank you so much for your feedback.

While we don't have immediate plans for Alabama, we do consider it a good market for snus and may look to expand to your state in the second half of this year.

                  All the best,
                  Martin Sowers
