    snus in new york city?

hi guys, i'm a snus newbie.

i found a place downtown that just started selling snus about a month ago:

    http://newyork.citysearch.com/profil...pipe_shop.html

they only sell general and catch. they don't know a whole lot about snus, so it's not a great place to ask questions--but i guess that's what this forum's for

anyone know of other places that sell snus in NYC?

    thanks,

    miz

    ******************************************************* *****

Looks like stores, that are not solely supplied by Swedish Match or carry a larger variety of brands, are hard to find - if they exist at all.
Many people in this forum believe, that snus will soon get more popular in the U.S. - so things could change.

Maybe you should try one of the internet-shops, meanwhile.

    Cheers!

Theres not going to be a big selection.

General Loose - aka its loose tobacco... ground pretty fine and its moist so its very pliable in the hands. form yourself a pinch and stick it in the upper lip.

General Portions - general in the little baggies, just stick a bag in your upper lip.

General white portions - personally don't really care for them... they are too lemony. You may like them

General wintergreen - tastes like winter green and its in the little baggies.

catch - these are probably going to be the mini portions, i have never tried minis because they seem like a waste.

If you want to try it out I would say grab the flavored wintergreen and either grab the loose general or the portion or both.

It will give you an idea of if its something you like. But online you can buy many many different flavors and varieties.

Sorry to post a little off-topic, but how much are they charging (typically) for loose and portion in the States?
Might be worth getting it via there for some of us in Europe

And how would you go about doing that?
Have a local forum member buy, package and send you the snus him/herself? :?:

Maybe, but, If you wanted to buy snus, in say, .. the uk, and pay all the taxes properly, the way buysnus do things, you would pay Swedish VAT, UK VAT and UK duty. If you bought it from The US, you could declare it BEFORE it arrived (as you are supposed to) and only pay the correct UK VAT and UK DUTY. 17.5 % less that if you were able to get buysnus do the whole declaration bit.
Better still, get a friend to send it from the US and mark it Snuff Tobacco (which it is) which attracks no duty in the uk, only vat.
Obviously there could be no element of reward or retail for your freind in the US. But if they ever fancied something from the UK, it would be your duty to get it for them.
              Is my idea flawed?

See, this is where the UK's "special relationship within the EU" clouds my understanding.
It has been agreed within the EU that if a private person buys goods in country X he/she only has to pay the applicable VATs in that same country X (where the goods are being sold).
I only pay swedish taxes and none here in Holland.

The UK, what with its EU-coffers-rebate and such, seems (to me) to have its own different set of rules so YMMV.

Hi Craig, Yep, the UK is run by a bunch of tax junkies.
When they could see people were fed up and wanted to import fags themselves, they panicked and put laws in place to stop it or at least make it very hard to do and not worthwhile.
Really, what these Snus firms should do is sell the snus without VAT to us and let us arrange it's payment with our respective governments, otherwise we could end up paying VAT twice.
Anyway, I'm looking at the price of flights to Sweden. I have been there a couple of times and liked the place.Mrs littlesilverbox is quite looking forward to it, and is "strong-of-back"  so will be of great use
                    What does YMMV mean?
Thanks to Carotevi for the prices.

You won't pay VAT twice - it's shipping from sweden, which is in the EU. Post within the EU is never searched for dutiable items because there are none - notice when flying within the EU that you get an express lane past HM Customs and that there's nowhere to buy duty-free?

this is the problem of buying snus in the U.S. It is cheaper to buy snus in sweden and have it shipped. By the time the snus reaches the U.S retailer to many people have increased the price to make there profit.

I have purchased at Barclay Rex (50th and Lex) and Shisha International (W 4th betwixt 6th and 7th). Selection is the same, and as previously mentioned. In terms of price, BR charges 4.70 something, Shisha an even 5 bucks. Dates are fine in both places.

                              Hope this is helpful.
