    Customs

I have seen mention that using UPS is more likely to result in a customs problem for US customers. I am curious if anyone here has had that issue and, if you did, what kind of taxes are added to the order?

    Thanks,

    Customs

I guess it's time for me to finally post as this is something I have just
had a problem with    .
I placed an order with Northener ( GREAT Co.) and had it shipped UPS  . Order came in 3 days as stated by North--. Driver say's that they want a check for 144.00 USD, 5.50@ for broker and bal. for customs taxes. The whole F---n order was only 99.00 +22.00 shipping.WTF   . I did some checking and found out that if customs gives a flat rate on quantity of snus it can be 350% tax but the usual charge is 1.47 per Kilo or portion there of. that being said they should have only charged me @7.00. Still waiting on my appeal of tax. Will let all know how it turns out but, will only ship by USPS (Swed Post) and wait 7 days for my order.
    Tom
Ps. As I understand it all orders under 200.00 are Duty Free so I keep them under that amount.

You will have to search way back, but someone else had the same problem with UPS. And they paid the ridiculous fee, but appealed it and UPS came back and said there had been a mistake, refunded mostly all of it, minus the customs charge and brokerage fee.

Reason why I have never used UPS. this has never occurred using USPS and Swedish post. And I have done a $199 plus some change order with no issues.

I agree.....I don't see the need to go with UPS. There was also a thread somewhere that had shipping time comparisons, and for the most part, UPS was only slightly quicker on average.

Thanks for replying Icebear, that decided me. My preference for shipping was Swedish Post but my order was going to be too large and would require UPS. I was wondering if I would do better breaking my order into two smaller orders. In the end, I am moving most of the order to Getsnus due to a website issue and what is left should go Swedish Post without a problem.

I also remember reading about more customs problems with UPS. If I put enough tins in my cart and they only give me the UPS option, I go back and delete things until I can select Swedish Post. I don't know the exact tin count for it to force UPS, but someone probably could post that for us too.

That really sucks Icebear, I hope it works out.

On my order it was 51 cans still went Swedish Post, 52 cans forced to UPS.

That's what I was going to suggest; maybe making two orders back to back. Has anyone done that? I don't know if any of the webstores would have a problem with it....it's two separate transactions and two separate packages.

I've only ever used Swedish Post and I've never had any problems with customs or taxes. I've only ever had one order take more than seven days to arrive. Most often they arrive in four or five.

Just to share a bit. I got my Northerner order today, on the shipping tag was written "crafts", not snus or tobacco. So maybe they are starting to have problems with customs.

                        Got my Northerner order yesterday

                        the label said "Swedish Snus/Crafts"

or maybe it was just "Snus/Crafts"

                        either way, snus was listed

NonEntity, I have found that you can place 2 orders back to back with no problems. If you break-up your order that way it will cost a bit more for postage but, it's worth it not to get surprised . On that note if you order
from Swedish match their site will tell you that orders placed within 24 Hrs will be combined.
To all thanks for the condolences

I'm wondering if my order from northerner is being held up by customs. Northerner shipped it last thursday and here it is saturday and no order. thats 9 shipping days. My last order came in 6 shipping days.

I know this is kind of late, but I wanted to add the reason why I only order form buysnus.com is the way Northerner dicked me on my one and only order. My piddly ass five can order got held up in customs (this was using USPS/Swedish Post) and they wanted 50.00 plus some other fees in order to release it. This was because some douchebag at Northerner wrote on the customs slip Swedish Snus Tobacco- TAXABLE TAXABLE.

Why in the hell would you so blatantly advertise that? When I order from buysnus, it says very small on the customs form "snus", and it's usually written kind of sloppily, which I think means it doesn't come under as much scrutiny that way.

Long story short, I ended up refusing to pay the tax and customs destroyed my order. Northerner has yet to respond to me, and seeing as to how it's been over six months I doubt they will.
