Anybody in the U.S. ordered Cuban cigars from northerner? I am interested in getting a few and just curious if you ran into any problems. Where they fresh? Did you get a customs charge? Did you run into any problems getting them? Any information and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The US embargo on Cuban tobacco is still in effect, no matter which country you're buying it from. I haven't tried to order any Cubans from Northerner, but judging from what happens if you try to order the Romeo y Julieta or Montechristo snus, you can add the product to your cart but they'll tell you the product is not available once you try to check out and specify a shipping address.
It's unfortunate, but that's US foreign policy for you.

I am all for lifting the embargo!! I bet if they do, some companies that sell Cubans on the down low will be really pissed off!! That would cut into their profits big time!
I bet there would be some people (not all, but some) not as interested in Cubans anymore because it wouldn't have the same forbidden rush surrounding them.
Either way, I like them and really wish that damn embargo would go bye-bye!

pm meGrant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I had a Romeo y Juliete the other day. No me gustsa. I'm not a cigar guy...just can't be bothered smoking something for an hour. It was a dominican one that I bought from a cigar shop near me. Dominican Monte Cristo's are quite good. Doesn't have to be cuban to be a good cigar. Some of the best cigars in the world are Dominican. The whole cuba thing just got out of hand.

Romeo y Julieta makes some pretty nice Maduros for the US market and they're a Dominican blend, if memory serves. I liked the Reserva Maduro much better than the 1875 or the Habana (which are both Honduran.)
I think part of the whole Cuban mystique is the "forbidden fruit" thing. We can't get them in the US, so therefore they must be something wonderful. Speaking from personal experience, I've had some great Cuban cigars, but one or two which just left me disappointed. Same as with any brand, Cuban or not.
