Credit Card Orders

Not sure where to put this. I wanted it where it would be read. As some of you know I sometimes smoke a pipe. I used to get nasal snuff from the UK. Three of the main tobacconist there have stated on thier websites that they can no longer except credit card orders for any tobacco related orders from the united states! The card companies will not allow it. It has started my friends..................................This is a dark day.

There was an article in the local paper that talked about the fees some of the independent business have to pay to process your cards. Some have switched to cash only. Contact them, this might be a cost thing..........

elmos, can you post a link to one of those sites? where they say that? i just found out about snus and with the laws getting passed coming up i am really paranoid about getting something taken away from me that has such innocent goodness to it. i am curious to how they are phrasing this.

So far we can. We need to find out the exact reason they can't/won't ship tobacco to the USA. I looked at snuffstore.co.uk and they don't have any notices up *yet*. I'm thinking about putting in a largish snuff order of items I can't buy over here just in case.

just looking at what's been posted in this thread it looks like mastercard is not gonna let people order tobacco products. overseas, i am assuming, i could be wrong. the more troubling post was lxskllr's post. the pertinent part of that is the screenshot i posted. they won't ship any tobacco related products to the usa.

I haven't heard any plans from the Snus-specific sites about this and I was able to order from Northerner if I wanted to.

If all else fails I can always kick it hippy style. I'll make trips to Sweden and travel around the US in a VW Microbus delivering snus to everybody! 8)

So not about cost but that legislation. Looks like that other forum is equally pissed about the pending laws. If only Big Tobacco handled those lawsuits better and didn't hide or deny all of that information for years we would be facing a whole different story now.....I hope it was worth it PM + RJR.

They had an extensive discussion over at snuffhouse.com on this very topic. The discussion is particularly informative because various merchants from different UK stores (e.g. Toque) chime in to give their insights.

It seems that the problem is with certain credit card processing companies who have taken it upon themselves to implement this restriction (thus its not government or even credit card companies per say but rather the middle man clearing companies that are the problem).

There may be two quick easy ways around this

1) See if the site sells gift cards/gift certificates. Buy a gift card and use it to place your actual order. Thus no credit card- tobacco transaction

It might be worth asking various sites to sell e-gift cards (kind of like Amazon or Ebay- the card is sent via email with a redemption code), use your credit card to purchase the e-card for that store, then use the gift card to purchase the product

A smart purveyor will put the gift card option at the end of the checkout procedure (after shipping and totals are all included) with a big notice “international orders please use the gift card option”. Then you buy your card for the amount of the total, await the email confirmation and gift card code, return to the store checkout, enter the code in the “apply gift card” box, and you’re done

2) You can buy cards at convenient stores that allow you to put a balance on them and they work like credit cards. I remember reading of someone who had a problem placing offshore bets with a credit/debit card but for some reason these seem to work just fine.

Either way this sucks

Also the problem seems localized to a number of processing companies in the UK. At least I havent heard of other cases like this affecting USA orders outside the UK.
