    Canadian Customs Duties Chicken

I wonder how seriously I should take the warning on Northerner's site about shipping in no more than 5 cans at a time to fly under the customs tax radar here in Canada? I was set to order 22 cans but chickened out. Anybody got experience in Canada with ordering a lot?

I think it was user "The Cook" and another one who have had to pony up a lot of extra $$ in taxes over there. I'd be very cautious.

I'm in Yellowknife, NT and by now I have ordered four rolls worth of snus from buysnus.com. As you may know thier policy is to break up shipments into several parcels of 5 cans each (@ no extra cost). This seems to be working very well for me. See below:

      Ordered:

      4 rolls @ 2 parcels/roll = 8 parcels

      Caught by customs:

1 parcel to the tune of 13.73CAD

So looking at these numbers I'd say it's a good system. I don't even mind paying the duty/tax. Even if your parcel does get caught on the way through it's really not that much of an inconvience considering your having fresh snus shipped right to your door strait from Sweden.

Hope this helps aliviate your fears of importing snus into Canada. Just make sure you have 20 or so loonies on hand on delivery day just in case Ottawa wants it's cut.

OK, that is encouraging. I have decided to order 5 at a time but the shipping etc is more expensive that way, I guess. So they split the roll in 2 for you? I am going through Northerner so I guess it is different.

YK - it sound like you only got dinged with the customs duty (5% of purchase price) and GST. You're lucky that you didn't get zapped with the federal tobacco duty.
