free camel snus at my 76?

So, i went "home" for thanskgiving, and left my snus in my other jacket. this led me to stop by a 76 for some camel snus. The clerk seemed... kind of out of it, but it seemed like she was telling me that the cost of the mini fridge just wasn't worth it, so they didn't carry it anymore.

I was disappointed, but then she says "hold on a sec, what kind did you want?" and she went into the back beer cooler and gave me a free can. She said they aren't allowed to sell them since they are supposed to be free with purchase, and the employees don't want to "push another addiction" on smokers.

I decided not to push my luck by asking for more (she was already doing me a favor by not making me buy some cigs to get them) so i thanked her and left.

I know camel is pretty much hated around these boards, but hey, free is free. so keep your eyes open when you're at a gas station. if they have no cooler anymore they might be doing the same thing.

It really sucks if you think about it. Camel definitely has the marketing and distribution system that most snus manufacturers can probably only dream about but their product is marginal at best. I am grateful to Camel as that is what got me started with snus instead of smokes but I don't understand why they couldn't have pushed Swedish snus instead. A Camel/Swedish Match team would have been awesome and you would probably see a lot more snus users out there. Camel has nice tins and their snus is fine if you run out of the Swedish stuff but they really missed their opportunity in my opinion. I recently saw Marlboro snus at my gas station but could only shake my head as I saw that the packages were very skimpy on the amount of portions they give you and that the flavors did not resemble what Swedish snus offers. Their is already a great snus product out there and it doesn't need to be Americanized or changed. I guess we never learn.

well, they refused to market them as a dip and cig substitute. they pretty much made their point that it was for use only when you couldn't smoke or spit. Plus they made it prohibitively expensive for anyone to adopt it as their main nic source.

I mean, 6 bucks for 15 mini pouches, is pretty much what they had. Dippers would much rather get a can of griz pouches for 3 bucks and smokers would rather get 20 cigs for the same price.

it just never made sense to switch completely. Maybe some day they'll try again...
