    Europeans Has anyone else heard............

That there is going to be a review of the" lifting of the sale of snus ban " in 2010 within Europe is this true or not.
As i have just contacted the office of William"The Earl of Dartmouth" M.E.P.....the United Kingdom Inderpendence Party....and was told even when it was wrong for government to interfere(E.U),as there no finite evidence as to the harmful effects of this substance,,there was no excuse for this ban. There it draws a blank on the next e-mail.....saying there wasn`t anything happening in the near future
Surely if this was the case....they would start the process to remove the ban or are they in the pay of the pharmacutical companys or anti-smoking lobbists.

On this Score....from what i have seen on this subject so far,i won`t be voting for the United Kingdom Inderpendence ,they know its wrong for the ban to be inplace.....yet they are not prepared to do anything

I don't know, it may be best for the ban to stay in place and to continue to buy in from Sweden as if it was legalised here the government would no doubt tax it to the hilt on the same level as cigarettes.

On the flip side would be nice to pick up a few cans from Asda when you felt like it

It's probably the big bucks of the cig companies keeping it banned, so people will keep smoking.

We are taxed to the hilt........swedish local tobbacco tax........then also the E.U import tax 25% ......look at your invoices
At least if it was readily available in the E.U locally....they would have to drop the import tax....remember its supposed to be a free market within the E.U.......

                Lidl

Lidl, as far as I remember (2008) does not sell snus in Sweden and Norway. When I was in Gallaher, we spoke with them about a private label snus, as Gallaher in Austria produces all their own-label cigarettes. Nothing came of it.

The only company with the critical mass to produce an ultra-cheap snus for Lidl would be Swedish Match, and they will not do it because it will take regular consumers of Kronan (cheap snus) to something even cheaper and loss-making.

Well surely.......they can`t sell locally in Austria......being its part of this European ban on snus,
Maybe all the retaillers .....would sell it if the ban was lifted......lidls aldi......
Its a matter of principle....here.....we should be free to buy Snus anywhere within Europe as with other products :?:

Thank you for you information on this subject ............but it slightly detracts from the subject.....being discussed here......as to the Ban on Sell...
Have you any views on this being European ......it must effect you aswell :?:

                      Europe

The lobbying process is ongoing in Brussels, especially via ESTOC (European Smokeless Tobacco Council) on whose Board sit SM, Oliver Twist and BAT.

The question is not "if," but "when." Especially now that Philip Morris Int'l has a JV with Swedish Match for the EU, I'd expect that a lot more money will be put into lobbying efforts.

Even if it were legalized tomorrow, snus faces the same hurdles as cigarettes: Ad bans and high taxes, as well as lack of space in crowded cornershops.

Well at least we would have that choice of being able as adults....to buy our product of choice in the places of residents within the European Union.....instead of having to buy it online....like some dodgy viagra or sex toy as if we are outlaws of the state and not to considered.....and taxed highly because of this.
As to the if and whens......if the above contact of a policy maker(or policy makers as no responce from the others....) within Europe is anything to go by ........this will be never
Surely this proves an injustist....that is a flaw from the start....of European Union....that really needs resolving.....if there is claim of a better europe......and if not promoting a healthier europe.....as they claim to want on the smoking front.
I was hoping to highlight a problem in policys on the subject of the Snus Ban....and sharing the findings .....
                        Any views on this

Hmm.....I hope it does become legal in the Uk as it would be great to be able to pick up a wide variety of snus at my leisure rather than waiting a week for Northerner to deliver.

Except - knowing our godawful government, they'd probably tax it to the same price as a pack of cigarettes at least. It's maybe better to keep it under the radar.....

Well it would be a fairer and compairable tax as regard to other tobbacco taxed products.....as you will remember the 25% E.U import tax would be dropped as it would taxed at the local tax rate as .......the paying of the swedish tax.
As for keeping it underground......this is the crook of the problem ......this needs to be resolved.......the non equaitly of subject as regarding....a ban in the first place and the cost we incure due to this injustist.
So When will we get our just deserved review

Dunno mate.....but you can pretty much guarantee that if it does go on sale in the UK it will be more expensive than it is to import from Sweden today! And importation from Sweden will become illegal.

The 25% EU Tobacco tax is nasty, as is the 25% Swedish VAT.......but the UK Government would probably slap on an 80% tobacco tax or something. You'd save a few % on the VAT though, but I can almost guarantee the end result would still be a more expensive product.
