    Pathetic isn't it ?

You know that the inch or two of snow that's in Stansted and classed as "adverse weather", is nothing compared to the weather in Malmo most days.

In England these days, most people just look out of the window and if there's even a dusting of the white stuff, half the country call work to ay they are "snowed in".

I know what you mean, the UK does kind of grind to a halt with just a sprinkling of snow

Living in Maine makes me laugh at such places, sometimes. I'm originally from NY, and heading back there soon, and people do the same thing there. Up here however, get a foot of snow and you're still expected to show up to work unless the town's closed down the road in.

In Minnesota as long as your car can actually move you will be expected to be at work. We have a excellent plowing system which works night and day to make that possible.
Summer months if it gets really hot and the air conditioning goes out they are much more flexible with closing things down.

Well UPS did get my snus to me on Friday but haven't seen a postman since Thursday. Apparently it's too dangerous for the Royal Mail to deliver in these 'adverse weather conditions' but I can go pick my own mail up from the sorting office if I like! If UPS can deliver why can't Royal Mail!? (sorry went off topic)

I grew up in Eastern NC (moving back in 4 days, yay!) and it's just he opposite. Most of the schools when I was growing up were not air conditioned. In early September and most of May, temps were in the low to mid 90's and relative humidity in the high 80's to low 90's. Nothing got shut down. However, we get an inch of snow and we were out of school for the day.

OMG I can agree on this. I used to live in IL where it snowed every winter and when I moved back to Texas as an adult I found that even when the weather called for snow they closed schools and shut everything down. So funny.

In defense of the South, the snow here is very wet and slick usually with a layer of ice under it, not the dry powdery stuff like up North. Guess who gets pulled out of the ditch the most? *Northerners.

*Edit: "Northerners" may be politically incorrect, so I'll correct it by saying "geographically disadvantaged"

elespectrol, you must work for a bank or the government. that's all that ever closes here in McDowell county on account of snow.

I wish I worked for the gov wow!!! I'm a sandwich cook actualy. We don't get much snow usualy in buncombe county (Asheville ). We did end up getting 18 inches that storm. Which is more than this city normaly gets all winter.
