    Foreign transaction fee???

    So I was just watching the local news and they're talking about a new tanning tax for people that use tanning machines, which leads me to bitching about how the government will nickel and dime us to death. That leads to me bitching about the PACT Act, of course, and she tells me that on my Bank of America account I've been getting charged a foreign transaction fee with every Northerner order. Every damn thing I've ordered has come from the US warehouse! Someone explain this to me before I blow an aneurysm or get even more cynical than I already am.
    It's not a lot, my last order of a roll of General had an extra fee of $1.17, but it's the principle of it all.

    It's a bank added fee. Hate them.

    It (1%) pays Visa's foreign network fees and offsets currency conversion. Your bank probably throws a percent or so on too, I guess because they can.

    The deal is that "Northerner" is in Sweden and that's where the transaction happens.

    I don't know how GetSnus is.

    If you shop around you can find lower and higher rates.

    It doesn't bother me particularly - we've been doing it for decades, but it is still kind of cool to be able to buy from around the world with relatively little hassle.

      I get this too, its because the money is not going to the warehouse in PA, its going to their headquarters in Sweden. So the bank charges the fee.

      Luckily its not that much.. Only a dollar or two.

        Just sayin'

        Are foreign transaction fees here to stay?

        "Currently, Capital One does not levy foreign transaction fees. So, if you carry a Capital One card, you are probably in the clear."
        I wondered why I never noticed this on my statement...

          Let me tell you how it will be;
          There's one for you, nineteen for me.
          'Cause I’m the taxman,
          Yeah, I’m the taxman.

          Should five per cent appear too small,
          Be thankful I don't take it all.
          'Cause I’m the taxman,
          Yeah, I’m the taxman.

          (if you drive a car, car - I’ll tax the street;
          (if you try to sit, sit - I’ll tax your seat;
          (if you get too cold, cold - I’ll tax the heat;
          (if you take a walk, walk - I'll tax your feet.

          Taxman!

          'Cause I’m the taxman,
          Yeah, I’m the taxman.

          Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
          If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
          'Cause I’m the taxman,
          Yeah, I’m the taxman.

          Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
          Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
          'Cause I’m the taxman,
          Yeah, I’m the taxman.

          And you're working for no one but me.

            yeah, it's only a buck or two, but think about those ATM fees of only a buck or two (or three). Did you know that that practice (ATM fees) yields several BILLION dollars each year, collectively in the US alone. It's disgusting.

              so now that I can only order from northerners US warehouse I fully expect not to have that charge on my credit card. I didn't mind it when my items were shipped from sweden. If we are purchasing something from an outfit in the USA its absolutely not right for us to be penalized because they can't open an account in the USA. Yet another issue that northerner needs to work out. I know it seems like a trivial matter but come on, it just shouldn't be happening. Northerner can fix it and should. Soon I hope.
              Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

              I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

                As they said. The payment still goes outside of the U.S. hence the charge
