    Looking for options !!!!

So i went to price another order with Northerner yesterday, got to the shipping address part and my state is not on the list, WTF. I emailed Northerner and actually got a reply today. They can no longer ship to Iowa ARRRRRGGGH. Although by reading all the posts about Northener's recent issues this may not be a bad thing

I did look at Buysnus and i can get a roll of Thunder shipped for just under $50. I guess that at $5.00 a can it would still be lots cheaper than smoking. I can stretch a single can of los out to 5 days if i have to. I don't have any desire to go back to smoking for many reasons. Snus to me is the absolute best way to get nicotine IMO.

Anyone else have any recommendations on where else to check out.

    TIA

Just buysnus for me at the moment. They're a good company and that's all you'll want.

Nope, nearest is a tobacco outlet 30 miles away. I have asked them if they will be getting any Swedish snus. They said that they are waiting to see how the demand is before they try stocking any.

I've never been big on shopping around. I pick a vendor and stick with them. I've used Buysnus and Northerner for most of my purchases, and only used other vendors the past year due to being short on funds. I'd grab up expired snus, and other specials when they arose. Buysnus is a fine outfit, and I wouldn't look farther than there. Hopefully Northerner will settle down shortly, and they'll be reliable for US shipments.

I don't understand why many people talk about "going back to smoking", if snus becomes unavailable, too expensive, or a big hassle to get, as to me, in my mind, those who wanted to quit smoking, wanted to for many reasons, I am thinking health mainly, but if snus was not available, I think it'd make more sense to use dip or chew, as you're already using an oral tobacco with snus anyway. I could maybe see using something like Camel snus when dipping was not as socially convenient, but I can't see why anyone would "go back to smoking" which is the worst thing to do.

What tobacco store did you ask? I have asked David's Briar and they said they were trying. THe Hawkeye Pantry in the skywalk in Des Mones is supposed to start selling snus late July.

I was thinking the same thing! A smoker can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a lot of them don't see dip/chew as an option because of the need to spit. I think if snus required constant spitting they wouldn't be using it either.

It could also be that they think dip/chew is just as unhealthy as smoking with an increased chance of mouth/esophegeal cancer. While dip has more of a chance of causing cancer than snus, I would just use a Pinkerton tobacco product like Timberwolf or Redman which has the lowest TSNA count of American dips.

Of course, you could also use Redman chew which has a TSNA count just as low as snus. The only drawback to chew is the excessive need to spit and sugar content from the molasses which can cause tooth rot. Which is why I also give a quick brushing or at least a swish of water after using chaw.

Then again, I think a lot of people's gums have a hard time handling the cut of American dip and their mouth gets sore. I've been lucky enough that dip has never given me sore gums.

It was the Tobacco Outlet in Ames. DesMoines is an hour south of where i am so i will get in touch with that place soon. Would be worth the trip down depending on the price per can.

I agree, i used to use getsnus only, then went to northerner and never had a problem. Now they won't/can't ship to Iowa, so i have to find another place to buy from. Right now BuySnus is looking like the best option.

Totally agree on the whole smoking thing. Now i'm to the point where cigarette smoke smells really disgusting to me. I have tried dip while working in Tennessee, that didn't work out too well. I guess i would get used to it if i had to, but personally i'd rather try quitting nicotine altogether if it came down to a choice between dip and camel snus.

Thanks for all the replies !!

The greatest appeal for snus, I think, is it's discreetness and no spit.

Waiting to see if there's demand? I'm sure the new snusers that pop up on this board almost daily represent a very small fraction of new snusers in general. With Iowa's current banned-delivery status, a brick & mortar store does have some advantage for sales. Getting some General in the store and promoting its availability would be a far better way to determine demand than is just being content with disappointing the random individual that makes the effort to ask for it. Of those that do ask the first time, you can be sure that a only a small percentage will bother to ask again. I mean is making an initial order of snus too much of an investment for this store? Call 'em at least once a week to ask when they'll be getting their snus delivery.

Just done some researching and i think i am SOL until i find a store here that starts selling -

                          Just found this on snusauthority.com

Separate from the PACT Act, Iowa, South Dakota, and Massachusetts have put forth laws to ban smokeless tobacco from being shipped into their state borders. This will make it impossible for residents of these states to be able to purchase Snus online, so hopefully Snus users in these states can find a local tobacconist that carries at least the General line of Snus. If you know of any retailers that sell Snus in these states, please contact me to let me know, so I can inform readers of where they can buy Snus if they live in one of these states.

A good portion of that $50 is shipping, make a mock order of 2 rolls (or more) and watch that price per can drop.

I have also heard that Utah is one of the shipping ban states but I've not seen anyone from there comment.
