It is illegal to supply snus and dip here in the UK, currently the new Government is asking the public for which laws they would like to see repealed. I have been to the UK government website to place my suggestion can other snusers please visit http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/repeal...f-oral-tobacco to add your positive comments and vote. I'm not sure if it is only accessible to UK citizens or open to anyone, all are welcome to try.

It is illegal to sell snus but not to import it. The ban on sale is an EU directive so you probably need to petition the EU as there is no specific U.K law to repeal as far as I am aware. I am not sure the the current govt's close relationship to BAT would play here as they don't make any snus. That said, count me in, I will add my support.

Just my opinion but maybe it might be better to stay with importing snus from Sweden to the UK (it's been a pretty smooth operation for me for the past 5-6 years) otherwise if it is sold here our good old government might charge us more for it and go down the US PACT act route including putting nasty, unfounded health warnings all over the cans. This wouldn't suprise me at all bearing in mind even lager cans have UK Chief Medical Officer warnings printed on them telling you not to drink more than 2 cans a day.

Sure, I get that and personally it would not benefit me to have legal sale in the UK. It is also about accessibility though, access to the internet and credit cards is far from universal here. As far as tax goes, I am not sure it would make a great deal of difference as I already pay a heap of E.U tax when I buy through northerner. When I smoked I imported cheap tobacco and every now and then a package would be ceased by customs but I still saved a lot of money. I am sure importing of snus would continue regardless of changes in the law. Freedom to sell snus in the U.K would be about choice, accessibility and harm reduction for the community more broadly.

This was part of my original thinking when submitting my repeal plea. I'm more of a dipper than a snusser but the idea of nipping down to the corner shop for a can when supplies run low sounds good to me.
BTW the law was brought in shortly after USSTC introduced Skoal Bandits as a response to try and stop minors buying it.
Northerner is my current go to for my dip and snus supplies.

Even if it was on sale in shops here I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be picked up by corner shops and supermarkets, only by specialist tobacconists, so the convenience aspect of being able to grab an emergency can wouldn't really happen. While I was waiting for my first snus order to arrive, I hunted high and low for some Oliver Twist bites as a stop gap, and even in central London only one out of three real tobacconists had any. When it comes to smokeless, we have a long way to go before we match the US, let alone Sweden, for general availability.

Three convenience stores in Harringay Green lanes carry snuff, one has mcchrystals, wilsons sp1 and medicated and two tins of mystery indian snuff. Eight sell tins of makla ifrikia and makla bentichou, which is a good emergency snus substitute. Top tip from a morrocan friend is to make portions of makla using Rizla papers, personally I hand bake it into a small pris as it is v. strong.
