Our governments and banks are treating us like children these days - not happy with shafting us with a recession they continue to shaft us with our OWN money.
I really hope people turn and make their feelings heard loud and clear.
I'd close my account with that bank very quickly and never use them again.
Also - debit cards are fine. Any fraud would be honoured by your bank anyway.

I work for a large national bank (Wells Fargo/Wachovia). My debit and credit cards both work perfectly on Getsnus.com. Wells Fargo tends to stay out of restricting purchases with their cards, unless it is internet gambling - those are always declined unless you call and authorize the purchases.
To clarify some of the confusion, most large banks offer the same fraud protection on their check/debit cards as they do for credit cards. As long as you report a fraudulent transaction within a specified timeframe (usually 60 days) you will be reimbursed after signing an affidavit that you did not conduct the transaction.

You are correct about those inconveniences for the most part. I wouldn't recommend losing or having your debit card stolen. However, your debit card point-of-sale limit is actually set by your bank on your specific card. Frequently, a bank will set this limit at $1500 or $2500. Meaning that even if you have a $10,000 balance in your checking account, a $3000 attempted purchase at the electronics store would still be declined. This limit is usually set initially based upon your account history with the bank. Most banks will simply set the limit at whatever you prefer for customer satisfaction purposes, but you must request the increase beyond what the bank will naturally approve.
I never said that fraud on your debit card would be painless, just that the customer protections provided are identical to credit cards when it comes to fraudulent purchases, if you have a good bank. Just know that if you ever loan out your card to someone else, or give someone your PIN, if you admit this to your bank you will lose your fraud claim. The bank will tell you that your loss is a civil issue between you and the other person.

One of my credit cards is giving me nightmares when ordering anything from Sweden. They keep calling me to ask me if I purchased something from a cigar store in Sweden, and I say, "yes", then they let it go through. Then I placed another order using that credit card and went through the same thing. I used another credit card and no problems. So, I'll just use that other credit card from now on. It's not a good idea to use your debit card anyhow, because it's tied into your bank account. Better (and safer) to use a credit card.

Time for a new bank my man. That is just retarded that they blocked a swedish company.
For reference: My bank declines any purchase over 1,000 USD. Anything higher than that and I have to call and tell them when I plan on making the purchase. They usually ask for a 1 day window to open the limit, then put the restriction back on it.
