    purchase blocked by my bank

new to this forum, but hoping to find help.
I've been a northerner customer for a couple years. then the PACT hit the fan. that means 71% tax in my state! i cant get skruf. plus the ups shipping charges... but i'm sure you all know about that mess.
so, i tried to put in an order this week, and it was rejected. so i tried buysnus, and it was rejected. i contacted my bank, and was told:
Thank you for your inquiry. At the present time, we are not allowing any debit card purchases from countries which we have deemed as being perpetrators of heavy fraud. This has been an ongoing concern and at this time we are not making any exceptions as there is no way to guarantee that your card number would not be captured during your purchase and used fraudulently in the future. We do not have any immediate plans for lifting this ban.
    I apologize for the inconvenience.
no transactions with sweden! i'd kill a man for some sterk skruf right now. any advice?

Lord, its not like you tried to order from Nigeria or Cameroon....geez. You might want to try another credit card.

We need to ask Northerner to start taking paypal.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Welcome voodoo! I am in a 75% tax state so I feel your pain. One roll costs me a total of 71 bucks. It sux that we can't get all the items we used to love but I am becoming accustomed to Jakobbson's Strong Wintergreen now.

You can buy a pre-paid Visa gift card from any store, register online, and use it just like an online credit card (have done it myself several times).

unfortunately, that is the only card i have. and i'm pretty sure paypal has a policy against tobacco sales. i used to smoke cigarettes, and my health has been so much better since snus. it really saddens me to see what is being done to keep it out of the hands of people it could help.

-edit: pre-paid card may work. thanks.

You can use Paypal, if you have a Paypal card, and use it like a credit card.

              Good catch, Jag...

As many times as I've read this post tonight, I didn't even
notice the fact voodoo was talking about a debit card. Lot
scarier than using a credit card since the account can be
totally wiped out in no time. Plus many/most debit cards
don't have all the protections of credit cards.

Is this a large national bank or a local one?

It's Phillip Morris Employee's Credit Union.

I would also switch banks. The government is already telling you how to spend you money, why would you also want your bank to do it?

True... I didn't even think about debit card protection, But I just assumed that if it was A Visa check card and has the visa logo on it and you use it as a credit card you would be protected with a major bank.. I'll have to check with my bank and see.. But you can't wipe out an account that really has no money it it...

Unless your like me and keep thousands in it...

Still, this is pretty BS. Especially since it's only Sweden. It's not like he's placing orders to Uzbekistan. I get the feeling this is just the banks blocking online tobacco purchases and coming up with a fake reason to explain it to customers. I'd say change banks. Chase has never done me wrong on this sort of thing, although they can be bastards with overdraft fees. Still, don't overdraw your account and you'll be fine.

The first time I ordered from buysnus, my card was rejected and I ended up using my paypal debit card... so paypal works fine.

The next day the banks fraud dept called me. After explanation that this was a real charge from a legit company and I was a bit miffed about my card being declined, they said it wouldn't happen again, and it hasn't. Last time my card worked fine.

                          thanks. that made me laugh.

so, i went to the store and picked up a green dot prepaid visa card.($4.95 + initial $100 balance) i started reading the cardholder agreement and found:
The temporary card cannot be used for... ...merchants or atms outside of the united states.
so now i wait 7-10 business days to receive my "personalized card" with which, presumably, i will be able to purchase snus. ridiculous does not begin to describe this.

prepaid credit cards are an expensive way to spend your own money.
