Good points STORM. One volcanic eruption spews more CO2 into the atmosphere than the history of man has produced. I remember as a kid in the late 70's early 80's when people were talking of a coming iceage. To think that man can influence the planet climae is aweful egotistical. The SUN and its changes has more to do with climate change than anything we can do or will ever be able to do. remeber, GREENLAND was named GREENLAND for a reason, when it was discovered, it wasn't an iceworld, like it is today. The earth goes through cycles and humans will not influence it. We may kill ourselves with drugs in the water supply, but we will not kill the planet. We will kill ourselves.
Guerrilla marketing swedish snus. Not cool.

Storm, I have to agree with you on thinking global warming is BS, only because I remember, like you when we were supposed to be concerned about the new ice age, that was big when I was in grade school. I don't think you will find much disagreement with the fact that pollution is bad, hence the name pollution. However, exactly what its long term bad effect will be I don't think anyone knows for certain. I totally expect in another decade or two we will be back to worrying about global freezing. There seem to be a massive money market in pushing global warming, but the apocalyptic end result scenarios always seem to take away from the root causes I don't think nature would mind a little less industrial waste & a little less consumer pollution. I don't think Nature cares how many green points you buy, or what ever the scheme is this week to make folks with money feel better about doing what they want. Now I am hearing about the methane from livestock, cows have been pooping as long as they have been eating; I think the dinosaurs probably did as well, although I was not present to confirm that.

Nicely put STORM. Why are we humans always held accountable? We were 'put' on this Earth by supposed higher power, maybe, and we are part of the earth as it is part of us. Each generation changes and learns new things and new inventions come to hand. In a sense, it is and was inevitable that we were going to learn how to create modern technology eventually. And with that the consequences, good and bad. But to blame humans for creating all this is ridiculous. We were meant to create all this 'pollution'. It was never going to be a different way than the way it happened. We must continue living and progress with full steam, and we will eventually create new things to better ourselves and our garden Earth. What the hell am I saying? I don't really know either, but thanks for reading. I think I made sense though.

So lets say you really like mixing mercury in your house paint. It gives the finish a special shine, and the durability is unmatched by typical latex paints. If someone told you there have been studies that indicate that mercury is bad for you, and there have been a few cases of insanity and birth defects would you clean up your house and stop using mercury in your paint? Or would you wait until you can't see, and have 3 deformed water head babies to take care of?

There have been negative studies in almost everything we use and consume actually. So if we believe everything, we would be naked living in a field where there is absolutely nothing. Fear is captivating and life changing. For example, the anti tobacco groups who scare the hell out of everyone about tobacco. Agreed on cigarettes, but there are so many people too that have smoked for eternity since childhood and lived to their 90's and beyond while still smoking. There are those percentages. Point is, we cannot live in fear about everything. 30 years ago, eggs were good for you, then bad for you, then good, then bad again. Before it was said that coffee was bad, then good for you, then bad, and now good for you. Moderation and fearless living is the key to a healthy long life.

That's fine for the individual, I prefer not to gamble with my only home. Scientists that devote their life to the study of climate can have reasonable disagreement over the implications of pollution and over population. I prefer to err on the side of caution, because a screwup doesn't just affect one person, it affects everybody.
I have empirical evidence of climate change. I've worked outside 8 hours per day, every day for over 20 years now. Things aren't like they used to be. Summers are hotter and dryer, winters are warmer, and also dryer.
We used to think that we could do what we wanted to the oceans with no ill effects. Now we've learned otherwise, and it's almost too late. When we decide that we're ****ing up the whole planet too much, it /will/ be too late. Caution is the prudent stance to take, because error could be catastrophic.

It's not you! Look up at the sky in the area and tell me if you see white streaks in the sky that last for more than ten minutes. \\
We all need to do our part to pollute less. I parked my pet landcruiser in the garage and only take it out for hunting and camping. It may be a greed decision but mostly an economical decision. There are monetary benefits to consuming less energy. My wife insisted on a small car that would be similar to the one she had in slovakia. So we purchased a scion xa. I installed a custom made HHO hydrogen generator to it along with an aluminum vortex inserted in the intake. I get about 65mpg with that little beast now and it's fast as hell! If you rally the thing, it still get about 40mpg with the HHO on.
An elder from the Crow tribe told me that this global warming thing is a scam to divert attention away from the real problems and place the blame on people driving around in their cars. He blames the Global Pollution on humans taking the minerals from the earth without permission, clear cutting forests, and treating water as something other than sacred. He placed and emphasis on the water.
It's good to listen to your elders.
Global Warming is a feel good operation to make terrible consumers allow industry to continue to piss on our earth. You will be occupied with changing your light bulbs and looking for a hybrid vehicle that caused more pollution to produce than a H1 hummer ever will.
The first step to getting back to your spiritual being is by planting something and helping it grow. Grow some tobacco. Email me and I will send you some seeds. This may wake you up to the LIE of Global Warming. Global Pollution is not a lie.
No disrespect to you. I could be wrong. All we know is that we don't know nothing!
Peace.

Hey STORM6490MT,
I read your post I had a similar experience with people using my work for their own benefit.
I used to work in various recording studios as a session musician and not realizing that everything that you play is recorded and kept for ever, I would just play some of my own material while waiting for cues or working on what ever we were supposed to be recording. Turns out one of the bass lines I came up with was sold to a producer who made club mixes and such all with out my input. Finally the guy who was the recording engineer told me about it and I had alerted me that it was copyright infringement and thus I could sue the guy and get a royalty from it since it was already in wide use. But in a way similar to you, I chose not to persue litigation and was more shocked that it happened rather than being a jerk about it.
I guess if you could learn anything from my experience, if you make anything that you do not want others to profit off of, make sure its copyrighted or patented.
To join the discussion on the tangent of global warming, I can say that I have some relevance in Environmental Science as after I graduated from music school and became throughly disappointed with my options as a trained musician ( like the type of disappointment of some one ruining a big suprise on you, but on a more life long scale) I decided to go back to college and persue environmental studies.
We can say what ever we want about the political motivations of those who make the biggest stink about global warming, but it is real, and there are various theories about how it works, so it's not actually true that every place in the world is going to be much warmer. In fact, where I am living now the only difference is that the seasons are much more extreme than they were 30 years ago, winters colder and summers warmer. And you do bring an interesting point about how they blame consumers for the majority of the climate change ills but that doesn't mean that they are not to blame.
We do need to bring attention to industrial pollution since it is much more vigorus than that of consumer pollution, but many consumers purchase vehicles that are extremely unnecessary for their living situations. I currently live on a plot of land that we farm and use to produce fire wood and thus owning a mid size pick up truck and a 6 cyl car for long drives is perfect, I honestly can find a reason to own a SUV that can be rectified by owning a larger car/ van or owning a pickup truck especially with the majority of them offering a crew cab option these days.
No hard feelings though, I'm not saying any one is right or wrong, just whipping out my soap box
